I have been trolling for Bass using the troll settings on my Mercury Smartcraft guages and I have to say that they work magnificently. When using the rpm setting my motor trolled at any RPM I needed to troll at. If my lures weren't working properly I could tweek my speed with a simple push of a button. No more wrestling with the throttle to get that exact RPM.

I found trolling with the mph setting resulted in to many awkward engine variations in attempting to maintain the speed I set my guages at. I was trying to troll at 3 to 3 1/2 mph over water (anywhere from 680 rpm- 700 rpm), maybe a faster troll would have fared better.

If you have these guages and do any trolling you have to try them.

Agreed. The feature works well.

If I were to repower, the availability of this feature would be an important consideation.
