I tried to buy a new windshield for my 1998 23' Outrage from Boston Whaler. A dealer said that because the hull is [here a mathematical notation was used but I believe the intention was to say "more than"] 10 years old they don't make that part anymore. I was shocked. Is this normal? Would some parts be available? The model was around through 2003 I believe.

The best source of information about the policy of Boston Whaler regarding how long they retain replacement parts in their inventory would be from Boston Whaler themselves. Boston Whaler Unibond hulls are sold with a ten year warranty. It is my understanding that their policy is to retain the molds for any hull parts for ten years after the last hull was sold, in order to permit them to make a replacement. I do not believe that a plastic windshield qualifies as a ten-year-warranty part, however, so it would not surprise me to learn that they do not have replacement windshield parts in stock for a model made 12 years ago.

Or, perhaps the dealer you contacted just didn't want to take the time to find out. You should contact Boston Whaler customer service for an inquiry like this. Often they will direct you to the original manufacturer of the part if the part was not actually fabricated by Boston Whaler themselves.

I did end up having upd plastics make a new windshield. They did a great job.

The dealer rep for BW spent some time looking into the windshield so I am sure they did not just tell me no out of laziness.

I have some other items I would like to replace, not major, but I never thought that parts might not be available. Very disappointed.
