Hi guys,

I have a client who wants to add a t-top to his Montauk 190. Any suggestions? I did a search, but didn't find much info. I'm looking for something high quality that fits the boat well. It does not need to be folding and I think it would be good if it was braced to the console for extra stability. It would also be nice if I could find something in the New England or Atlantic Canada area for shipping reasons.

As BW does not include a T-Top as an option for the 190 I imagine your best bet is a custom fabricator.

Deciding between stainless steel or aluminum will be fun. If aluminum is selected deciding between anodizing, painting or powder coating will also be fun.

There was a recent discussion on this site about the relative merits of steel vs aluminum that may be a worthwhile read for you.

There seems to be no shortage of fabricators in New England. Try the Yellow Pages or check the area marinas catering to small offshore fishing boats for recommendations. The local BW dealer may have a recommendation, also.

Thanks for the input Butch. I'm thinking anodized aluminum would be the best choice. It seems to work well and last well if polished/waxed once in a while. All of the boats I look after that are equipped with aluminum t-tops as I recall.
I'd love to have someone local fabricate the t-top. There are lots of metal fabricators around, but none that I am aware of who are experienced in building t-tops. I have been talking with one shop in Mass already, but they want the boat on site to fit the top. This is reasonable, but the boat would have to be towed from NS to do so, which is a bit cost prohibitive. I'm hoping I can find a shop who has built one for a 190 or can get the measurements from another 190 that is local to them. It would be fairly easy for me to have the t-top picked up and trucked to NS for me to install.

Chris

There are several very long threads on this and one has regualar updates by one of the manufacturers, Tee Topless I think.

If you search under Atlantic Towers it should pop up in the results

there was a guy (old school), that had a 190 montauk that had a t-top made.
He sold it a half a year ago.

I would check with Boston Whaler to find out if there is a reason they do not offer a Tee Top for a 190 Montauk.

LHG,

I contacted Chuck Bennett and he said Whaler doesn't make a T-top for the 190 Montauk due to lack of demand. There is reinforcement in the floor for it though.
