I am looking at a 97 Dauntless 20 dual console - are there any trouble areas with these whalers that I need to be aware of? Any info appreciated and thanks to everyone for all the information you have posted - it really helped with my recent 86 Montauk repower and renovation project.

I've got a 96 and it is generally a good boat. The only real problem I've had with the boat itself is a failing passenger seat. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I also have a 96 20 Dauntless dual console. It's been pretty much flawless. The only thing I would consider adding is trim tabs, but basically I love it - perfect boat for water skiing and tubing, but super stable and seaworthy in case the weather kicks up.

It's my favorite BW hull ever, light weight enough to pull up to the beach yet very seaworthy. I recommend at least a 175hp, here are the specs:

Length 19' 8"
Beam 8' 4"
Draft 15"
Dry Weight 2350
Swamp Capacity 4800
Persons Capacity 9
Fuel Capacity 87
Max HP 225
Min HP 130
Engine Shaft 25"

Mine is actually the 99 Ventura which is the identical model. It has the trim tabs, s/w and f/w washdowns, and the livewell. I had a 96' 20' Dauntless which provided significantly more headroom than the later Ventura.

I'm confident you'll love it for years to come.

Good luck!
