I just purchased a 2000 22 Dauntless and want to mount my electronics on the center console but don't want to junk it up. I hate the idea of drilling holes and making a mess up there. I was hoping to see some photos of what others done - can you send me some great things you have done to make it look nice and keep it clean? You can use the email in my profile.

Ben,

When I acquired a 19 Montauk last year I decided to flush mount the electronics. It turned out pretty well, but other than looking pretty, I'm not sure flush mounting added any functionality.

I recommend you get some craft paper and cut a sheet or so to the approximate dimensions of the area where you want your electronics. Also cut some cardboard templates approximating the size and shape of the faces of the electronics you want to mount. Consider the ergonomics and views from your operating position. Arrange to suit.

Consider the space in the console. Consider access to all the mounting hardware and wiring in the console. In particular, remember screwdriver access to the VHF radio mounts inside. I failed to do so and it was almost a disaster. I ended up having to drill a hole in the side of the console so I could use a screwdriver poking through the hole. As luck would have it I was able to use the hole afterward to snake the VHF antenna cable to the radio.

I don't think I'll flush mount a GPS again. The VHF radio is a perfect candidate for flush mounting but a GPS is much more useful higher up on top of the console with the screen angles toward the operators face.

Here is the dash of our 200 Dauntless.

Flush mount VHF and put your GPS/Fishfinder on bracket mount for easy removal. Keep in mind the VHF connector, I had to use a 90deg fitting and shim out the radio with abit of starboard on the last install I did.

I agree with laying it out before, that way you can make sure it all fits.

Good luck and your hands will stop shaking after you cut the first hole.

Rob,

That's a very pretty install with great functionality.

I did what RobP did-bracket mounted a larger and more expensive GPS plotter/fishfinder on the left side of my 200 Dauntless.

This leaves only two small screw holes in the fiberglass.

Best of all, this expensive unit goes home in the house with me when I'm done with the boat. Hookup time is about 45 seconds.

Plus, I like the ability to adjust the angle of the display depending on the angle of the sun.
