[An unseen Boston Whaler 21 CONQUEST boat] looks like a great hull. Any comments? [This Boston Whaler 21 CONQUEST being discussed is] powered by 200-HP. Thanks--Ed

I believe the hull of the c.1999 21 CONQUEST is a variation of what Boston Whaler would later call the AccuTrak hull. The lines of most of the AccuTrak hulls always seemed to me to be a bit more rounded and not as sharp as the other Boston Whaler hull designs. In some of the boats, the AccuTrak hull looks almost like someone pumped air into it and inflated it slightly. In the c.1999 21 CONQUEST the hull lines are sharper and the bow does not have that bulging characteristic. Its dropped shear line transom or Euro-transom is short. I find the c.1999 21 CONQUEST hull to be a very nice looking one.

The seakeeping of the AccuTrak is on a par with other Boston Whaler hulls, as far as I can judge from comments about them.

Is your inquiry just about the hull itself?

As owner of a 1999 21 Conquest, I can confirm it is an Accutrack hull. It performs well, but in my opinion the optional trim tabs are needed in a head sea to keep the bow down. It's best described as a semi-V design.

I also owned a 1998 Dauntless 15 with the Accutrack design.
I noticed one benefit to the "inflated" bow characteristic JimH mentions. When you "stuffed" the bow into a wave, the extra buoyancy kept "green" water from cresting over the foc'sle and made for a drier ride.

Hope this is the type feedback Ed is looking for.

I have a 99 23 Conquest and will agree with Jim and MM.

However, this design (at least on the 23) has two very annoying characteristics: it does not track well in tight, high speed turns, and when running on plane in a quartering sea the hull will slam, sometimes quite violently (depending on sea conditions).

I think this is due to the following feature of the hull, take a look at:

The area I'm referring to is the part of the hull just above the front fender on my trailer. This large flat area gives the wave a nice, broad area to slam into.

David-- Every boat will get that slap when hitting the wave just the right way. I had the cringing bang and slap when running on plane and not cutting a wake just the right way.

As others have said, trim tabs are your friend on this size boat. 21, 23.

David, love the shine on that boat. Being in the water year round with bottom paint, mine hasn't looked that nice in a long time.

Thanks for the input. At this point in my boating life I'll be using the boat mostly in the bay and not offshore, however, as you all, know weather can change quickly. I'm looking at a one-owner 1999 hull with a 1999 Blue Water Series Mercury with plenty of canvas, with a dual-axle trailer. The seller is asking $16,500--Ed

That's a great price. I also have a 1999 Conquest 21' with a 200-HP OptiMax. Mine has the hard top and I think that's the best feature of that boat--it keeps the sun off and the rain out. You can zip yourself in with side curtains and run bone dry in a nasty downpour. Love the boat, but when it's time to re-power, I'll look at a Yamaha since the Opti has given me plenty of grief.

Price seems in line with BUC. I just checked online this past weekend. If it's in as good a shape as Dave's 23, add 10%.

If you don't mind, email me what you purchase it for and best of luck. Tough in this market to gauge market value.

Correction, the BUC value does NOT include the outboard value. That price is very good for a boat in above average condition and no bottom paint when you factor in the OptiMax 200 ELPTO is probably worth an additional $4,000.

I think that's a good deal, particularly with canvas--even though you didn't state exactly what kind.

I love the 21 Conquest. It's my favorite of the line. My 23 is a close second.

The 21 will handle the Mount Hope and Narragansett Bays just fine.

Aside: I'm a Rhode Islander living in Minnesota. Also, my boat looks just as good now as it did in that four-year old picture. Collinite is magical stuff.

Ed- I too am a proud owner of a 98' CQ 21. It is hands down my favorite trailerable boat on the planet! That price is a steal granted it runs well and is in decent or better shape. It mashes through the chop and feels super solid. I take mine out in Half Moon Bay all the time and have only felt unsafe once. I would have felt unsafe in a 35 footer that day. The layout is perfect for fishing and cruising and it doubles up as a fantastic family. Its versatility is hard to beat. So I guess what I am trying to say is, just buy it!

I have a 1998 Conquest 21 and love it as well. Although it's my first and only boat and I can't imagine getting another boat. I have found it to be extremely versatile. The cabin is great for kids or spending the night night for 2 people (much like no frills camping), it is easy to trailer and stable in the ocean with enough room to fish and crab. That's a good price. I just added a custom top with canvas and it cost nearly $5,000--that definitely adds a lot of value if yours has canvas.

Great to hear first hand reports from Conquest owners.
I'm "talking" with the owner of a Conquest and I think it will happen.
I'll keep updated.
Again thanks everyone for your input.

I purchased a 98 21' Conquest in the summer and I am in the process of setting it up for salmon & hali fishing. I sure hope it will do well on the PNW.
