I did a search on this and though there is a lot of great info here on tongue weight and things like that, I couldn't find any reference info on trailer height(when level) for a 2005 Karavan trailer. I don't have the trailer model number handy and the boat (170 Montauk)is in storage else where right now so I can't go out and measure it.
I'm having a tow hitch installed tomorrow and am wondering if anyone knows off hand that the receiver height is on that particular trailer/boat combo? Will want to figure out which "drop" to select on the ball mount.

Thanks in advance.
Best,
Bob

Bob,

I believe the Karavan web site allows access to their technical manual. Perhaps the information you need can be found there.

Thanks, Butch. I'll see what I can find on there.

I find that to keep the trailer leveled, I need to have the ball few inches higher. the tounge weight and suspension you have will change things up a little.

The proper rise or drop is dependant on many things; wheel diameter, tongue weight, hitch height, suspension of the vehicle (sag when hooked up)

When I switched from a Montauk to an Outrage, my old receiver was to low due to the larger 14" diameter tires on the new trailer.

1.Measure the height of the trailer coupler to the ground when level.
2. Measure height of ball to ground
3. Hook up boat and measure ball to the ground to calculate sag.
Add sag measurement to #1 to get proper height. What receiver gets you to that measurement?

Thanks Whale and Phil T.
I went with a 2" drop, figuring that would be in the ballpark. Next I'll do as you described, Phil and see where I'm at.

Appreciate all the help, folks,
Best,
Bob

Even simpler:

1. Hook up trailer.
2. Measure height of the top of the tongue.
3. Measure height of the frame at the wheels.

The difference between 2 and 3 tells you how much you need to
change the drawbar.

HOWEVER:

A. Receiver height isn't terribly relevant. It just
determines what drawbar you need.

B. It ain't important, other than looks, that the frame of the
trailer be level.

On my 2008 f150, 2 wheel drive, I needed a 2" drop for my montauk 170 on a keravan trailer. Don't know if that helps the OP or not, tho'.

Thanks Marsh,
I've got 19" from ground to the top of the 2"ball on my hitch. I won't be able to see how that lines up with the trailer for a couple of weeks. I'll report back after I check it out.
Thanks again, folks!
