What are the differences between the two models other than the obvious sizes (lengths)?

The 20' 1996-97 Dauntless and 1998-99 Ventura share idenical hulls and configurations, there is no difference other than the name. Here are the specs:

Length 19' 8"
Beam 8' 4"
Draft 15"
Dry Weight 2350
Swamp Capacity 4800
Persons Capacity 9
Fuel Capacity 87
Max HP 225
Min HP 130
Engine Shaft 25"

Post 1997, the Dauntless was consistently a center console design offered in several different lengths.

The 16' and 18' Venturas were first introduced in 1998, the 21' Ventura was introduced in 2000.

If I understand you correctly there was no change in the actual boat in association with the name change from Dauntless to Ventura?

Correct. I've owned both and there is no difference between the two.
