I want to install some speakers on my year 2000 22 Dauntless. I wanted to see who has already done this and what location did they end up installing them? If you can send some photos or experiance - that would be great.

Hi Ben, several years ago I installed speakers along with a sub woofer in my much smaller Dauntless. I have been very satisfied and a similar set up should work for you also. The sub woofer made a great deal of difference and takes up very little space in the RPS. There are links to pics of my installation in this thread.
Be prepared for a political discussion about the merritts of putting a "stereophonic music system" on your whaler, LOL.

Thanks for the reply and link. Unfortunately the 22 console is different and that location is not available due to the fire extinguisher and drawer. Right now the only option I see is above the cooler in front of the console – but not sure how good the sound will be.

Ben, after looking online at the D22 console, I see what you mean. I don't recommend putting them on the front of the console, you will not hear them very well from the helm. How about below the "jump seats" in the stern or facing forward under the seat storage at the helm ? You don't have a lot of good options.

Do you have room under the gunwales? That's where I mounted two box style speakers on my 2000 18 Outrage. I did not have the stones to bring myself to cut holes in my console. Sadly, I do not have any photos of the installation. My speaker are not of the best quality, but have lasted six seasons, so far so good. They are similar to these:
The stereo is in the electronics box, the speaker wires run down through the console and then to the stern in that wiring tube, then under the gunwales foreward to the speakers. Can't even seen them unless eye level is slightly below the gunwale. They never get kicked, direct sun, stolen, or even wet, unless spray from a hose splashes up there.

Thanks all - I like the idea of the small box speakers. I am thinking they will fit nicely on the console. I thought about the lower console sides but the only spot they would could go does not have a flush surface. I dont want to cut holes in the stern seat base or the helm storage base.

I have a 2001.
Sadly, there is no magic spot for them on our boats.
I now use a XM radio 'boom box' that I set on top of the console, against the windscreen.
Works for us.
