We just purchased a used (2006) Montauk 170. We noticed the bow light didn't work (saw all the issues with this on-line). We took it apart and the lens just lifts right off the base, the little tabs were broken off. I got a new lens assembly (base, lens, etc.) from Sue at Twin Cities. I was looking at the new assembly yesterday evening, and it's not evident to me how the lens comes off of the base. Do you twist it counter clockwise or what? I hate to break my new one.

did you buy the same lens?? you have the old piece that you can look at right?
it has three tabs on the bottom that twists onto. it breaks too easy that if you cant turn it by finger tips, dont turn it anymore.

problem with these are that tabs pulles the contacts down to keep the bulb connected. Instead of buying new one everytime, I just used SS wire and made a 5/8 coil just like the spring that -terminal of AA batteries has, it contact the upper side of the bulb. bend the wire 90 deg and connect to the contact with a small crimp connector.

instead of buying new lens everytime and not having the light when you want it. I spent 25cents and never had a issue.
