One of the few things I don't care for about my Montauk 170 is the lack of trailer guide-ons. I had them on my last two Whaler trailers. Not only did they make getting the boat on the trailer easier when the tide is running fast, or it's windy, they make backing the trailer a lot easier when the boat is not on it.

Can anyone recommend a brand that they've put on that they really like? Ones that are heavy duty and well made?

thanks

My use is 100% salt water. I rinse trailer, etc after every use.

I bought the brand that Academy Sports carries in stock. They were terrible. They rusted out within a year and a half. I would avoid at all costs.

I'm 95% saltwater myself.

Given your skills, have you considered fabricating a set?

I could certainly fabricate a set, it's pretty simple. I'd have to find a (good) place to have them galvanized then.

I installed the set from Trailerpartsdepot.com for about $50.00 and topped them with a set of lights from Pipe-Light.com. The set is galvanized but I used stainless mounting hardware, been on for several years.

blacksmithdog --- just use galvanized pipe and use a good rust preventative/primer on the welds. Sliding pvc pipe over the vertical pipe/guides works well too. -- Jerry/Idaho
