Re: OMS / VRO Pump Verifying Oil Pump Delivery

Yes, my major concern was the 78:1 Average Fuel to Oil ratio calculated for the 63.6 gallons consumed. I appreciate your detailed reply. I agree with your point about using Time as the comparison. It isn’t appropriate given it is not the most significant input factor to the fuel to oil ratio (output...

OMS / VRO Pump Verifying Oil Pump Delivery

I recently installed a new OMS Pump Kit (OEM BRP P/N 5007423) on my 1986 Johnson 150 (J150TXCDC). INSTALLATION AND TESTING In addition to a new pump, I installed a new oil tank, inline pulse limiter, and hoses with proper BRP Ratchet Clamps. During the install, I tested the new oil tank and confirme...

Re: 1986 OMC Remote Shift and Throttle Control Rebuild

To clarify, I was interested in a comparison based on brand new OMC, Teleflex TFExteme, UFLEX cable offerings or other (not a comparison of my original 1986 OMC cables to new cables). Often these old technologies are ripe for "leapfrog technology" and I am just curious as to whether there ...

Re: 1986 OMC Remote Shift and Throttle Control Rebuild

I was planning on purchasing the OMC OEM cables, which for 18-foot length have part number 173118. Is there any functional advantage to the Teleflex TFExtreme option or UFLEX Mach Series option? I am curious as to whether there is an option that provides some sort of upgrade in technology for smooth...

Yes, you are correct, tilt switch p/n 039582 is no longer available through normal channels and at a reasonable price. Can you share the Console Mounted Trim/Tilt Switch part number you are referring to? I wasn't aware of that option.

Re: 1986 OMC Remote Shift and Throttle Control Rebuild

Thanks for the very thorough response to my question and related concerns. I’ll take the top-mount remote control apart to clean up the parts, and will apply lubrication upon reassembly. I’m not sure whether the mechanical components are metal, plastic or a mixture of both. If metal I’m thinking OMC...

1986 OMC Remote Shift and Throttle Control Rebuild

I removed the 1986 OMC single-lever remote shift and throttle controls (OMC p/n 173646) from my Outrage 18 boat. I plan to replace the original mechanical control cables. The control of engine tilt position with the TILT switch on the control handle is intermittent. At some times the tilt motor does...

Re: 1986 Outrage 18 Johnson 150

The OEM Service Manual for the [1986 Johnson 150-HP outboard engine] specifies a "Full Throttle Operating Range" of 4500 to 5500 RPM. What RPM should I be targeting with my propeller testing? Currently, with two individuals on board and an old aluminum 14-1/2-inch x 19-pitch aluminum prope...

Re: 1986 Outrage 18 Johnson 150

I just realized my 1986 Johnson 150 was mounted two-holes-up. I am getting ready to mount the outboard. Should I mount the outboard one hole up or leave it at two holes up? Prior to the rebuild and using an OMC aluminum 14 1/2 x 19 prop, I would get some minor porpoising at higher speeds and and the...

biggiefl, reading his post a bit closer, it seems he is saying that he never could decide on buying a stainless steel prop. He stuck with the aluminum one.

I have an 1987 Outrage 18 with a 1987 Johnson 150-HP mounted two-holes-up with a Michigan Wheel Vortex 19” aluminum propeller. I could not make myself spend the bucks on a stainless propeller thinking the motor would die soon. Fifteen years later that has come true. I, too, kept my Johnson 150 cros...

Yes, not the greatest burn time, but I can live with that for how many times I sleep on board versus dealing with a lengthy wired solution and additional storage space. I do see Navisafe has another all around light solution referred to as the "Navisafe Polelight Pack" (2 NM visibility). I...

The Silverado 4000 fuel line exterior matte color, interior appearance, cross and longitudinal section appearance is very similar to the appearance of the Trident B1-15, SAE J1527 hose. I experienced something similar, but no where near the severity your pictures show. In early spring I noticed a similar one inch long brown drip line on the exterior of my transom. The brown drip line was low on the transom and somewhat hardened/crusty. I cleaned the area with a mild abrasive and fo...
