I would suggest there was a defect in the material.

Who, specifically gave you each recommendation?

I recommend a four-bladed propeller. The PowerTech OFS4 is a good model.

I trust Ken Reeves at PropGods.com. Give him a call. He also takes back a propeller for exchange for a nominal stocking fee. So few sellers of propellers will do this anymore.

Discussing the appropriate diameter and pitch of propeller without including the specific name of the brand and model is meaningless.

Performance is not dictated by diameter and pitch alone and sizing is not universal.

Reads as the engine is "one-hole up".

Engine should be mounted so there are two empty holes above the top bolt.

The trailer shown in Figures 2 and 3 is suitable for a MONTAUK 17 as long as the axle rating is more than 1,500-lbs and the distance from the winch post to the end of the frame is at least 16-feet 9-inches.

As has been stated ad-nausium, the horsepower rating on the capacity plate for a motor boat only applies to the manufacturer at the time of original sale. There is no restriction on exceeding the horsepower requirement.

I prefer this VanLanker designed model as it has a better riding hull than its predicessor, a much taller console with improved ergonomics, allows flat mounting electronic displays in the electronics box and is not excessively heavy like the post 2000 models.

Given the dirty condition of the boat, I would not be as concerned with the area in the photos. I would be looking at the transom, thru-hulls, keel, bow eye, fuel tank, signs of water ingress.
