Re: Added cleats to 190 Montauk
Nice job! I understand the angst involved in drilling that first hole. I added aft cleats to my 2003 170 this past winter and found BW's Chuck Bennett a great source. I'm so glad BW planned ahead and added the backing material (although I wonder why they never added them to begin with). Your process...

Re: Montauk 17 Fuel Tank Locations
You may also want to consider weight and balance. How many folks do you plan to boat with (weight and balance), where you plan to boat (water conditions, which could dictate likely speed restrictions) and 'most likely' range requirements (how much fuel is optimum for most circumstances) may all weig...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Fire Extinguisher
Thanks Jim. I will try Kidde. The concern with the horizontal mount is that the strap is very diameter dependent, as it tightens securely around it. I have found similar diameter fire extinguishers, but those were too long to fit into the recessed cavity. I am ok with having to install a new strap, ...

170 MONTAUK Fire Extinguisher
[What is] the best source for replacing a Kidde WR392753? This model is not subject to recall and is the original fire extinguisher which came with my 2003 170 MONTAUK. I cannot find one at West Marine, Amazon, or on Kidde's website. I have not tried a dealer yet, as although they are good, are an h...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Stern Cleat Screws
All, I received a very prompt and complete response from Chuck Bennett at BW. Looks like I can add the stern cleats, but AFT of the aft side rail base. There apparently is phenolic board from the transom thru to the aft aide rail base, but not forward of it (until I suppose one gets to the next side...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Stern Cleat Screws
Thanks very much. I'll contact BW. And yes, these cleats will be newly added. Understand your very accurate description and again, thank you.

Re: 170 MONTAUK Stern Cleat Screws
Thanks for both responses thus far. First to Butch; yes I am using the Attwood 8 inch 316 stainless, which I purchased directly from the local BW dealer(Chesapeake, in Grasonville, MD). It is supposed to be and looks identical to those cleats in production boats on their yard. The location I want to...

170 MONTAUK Stern Cleat Screws
Hi. I am upgrading my 2003 170 Montauk with Atwood 8-inch stern cleats, but I'm uncertain as to the correct screws to use, beyond the 1/4-inch called for by Atwood. From the wood locating diagram I once downloaded for my Montauk, I understand wood is there. But when looking at the online constructio...
