Re: 2010 210 Guardian - Installing Thru Hull Fitting

PeterO--Are you going to replace the raw water intake through-hull fitting?

If [the boat] has Penske board, is it necessary to do anything special when you renew the through-hull fitting?

ASIDE: This is a very good topic.

Re: Urgency to Change to Bunk Trailer from All-roller Trailer

I have a Shorelandr galvanized bunk trailer made in 2003. The bunks were bare 2X6 boards when I bought the 2006 180 Dauntless boat. I first carpeted the bunks, but the boat didn't slide well. Then I placed a teflon-like cover--I don't remember the trade name--over the boards because they advertised ...

Re: Brass Drain Tube Installation Detailed Procedure and Hints

Great detailed report, good luck, I know it was not straight forward. I was surprised My 2006 dauntless had plastic thru hulls. I replaced them in the Fall, just hope what I did doesn't leak, I had to make a press to pull the tubes together and I sealed with a caulk BW recommended instead of the 420...

Re: 180 DAUNTLESS Through-hull Replacement

Thanks JimH - I did check with Boston Whaler; they recommend SikaFlex 291, which I will use. I returned the 3M4200. All the discussions and photos of rotted wood make me aware that these thru hulls do need regular attention, so if I need to pull these every couple years, I don't want to be wrestling...

Re: 180 DAUNTLESS Through-hull Replacement

Thanks JimH. My boat is a 2005 180 Dauntless, and the thru-hull fittings in the engine splash well and the bilge drain hole are press fit. I worked with Sue in Wisconsin to get the parts from Boston Whaler. They were actually shipped directly to me from Boston Whaler. Boston may well use threaded th...

I am replacing three press-fit thru-hull fittings on my 180 DAUNTLESS. These OEM components are plastic press-fit thru-hull fittings. Two are in the engine splash well, and one is the bilge drain tube. They are different lengths. Boston Whaler sells the replacement part in one length, so they need c...

Re: Raising Boat On Trailer to Make Repair

Do what Con suggest, even if you have to pay someone to help with the labor. Laying under a boat to do that amount of work will be very difficult and the work to flip the boat will be much easier and better than the effort of getting help to flip the boat.

Re: Thread Locker for Console Screws

Jim is right, loc tite won't work in your situation. I wonder if the wood your screws are going into is soft from moisture. Check that and consider how you can dry the wood. I'd then look more to the 4200, definitely not 5200, but the 4200 will hold your screws, seal and f you have to remove the con...

I thank both of you. The message on the gauge shows "engine hot". But the owner's manual for the Optimax does not speak to how hot is nornal. As mentioned in the post that Phil sent, the smartcraft manual doesn't address it, or what to do. I have a mechanic coming tomorrow, I had the boat ...

i think the mineral spirits [may] have been the problem. [Mineral Spirits have an] oil base and may have left a film. Try acetone in an area and see if that evaporates better without leaving any film.

Re: 2005 180 DAUNTLESS Steering Always Hard To Turn

I did get smoother travel in the OUTPUT CABLE after continued flushing of the engine TILT TUBE. Before reassembling I put a small coating of grease on ...
