NAUSET 16: Re-bedding glass panes in console windshield
Hi All, I've been making progress on my 1966 Boston Whaler Nauset project. Refinishing the original mahogany center console has taken a little longer than expected, but I am happy with how the results are coming out. The previous owner had removed the four panes of glass from the windshield frame, s...

Re: 1967 NAUSET Repairs
Hi guys-- Thanks for the responses. I'm going to do a deeper dive into the corner of the boat to make sure there is no fiberglass damage. I also did a little more research on fairing compounds from Total Boat. Since I'm planning on doing a gel coat repair (not paint) it's easier to use a polyester b...

1967 NAUSET Repairs
Hi All--I've been searching for a classic Boston Whaler boat project for the past year and finally found the perfect one: a 1967 Nauset that was stored, unused, in a garage, for the past 30 years. The gel coat seems to be in fairly good condition for a more than 50-year-old boat. My plan is to compo...

Re: Assess Condition of c.1960 Hull
As always, the forum provided great answers to my questions. Q24: Did you buy the boat? A24: No, I did not buy the boat. I chickened out. I didn't want to get into a summer-long project where I was working on the boat more than I was enjoying the nice weather. I'm looking into having a boatyard do p...

Re: Assess Condition of c.1960 Hull
Thanks jimh. I still have a question on the condition of the boat.
Q22: Is this the condition that most un-restored late 60's whalers will be in?
Q23: Or am I better off waiting to find a boat with less crazing?
Any input on the work required to restore this would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Assess Condition of c.1960 Hull
I should have included more information. Based on the identification number on the transom, this is a 1967 16-foot hull. The funny thing is the title says it's a 1971 EASTPORT. The interior matches the EASTPORT description and is all original wood. I took a lot of pictures of the defects and none of...

Assess Condition of c.1960 Hull
I am considering buying a c.1960 Boston Whaler boat. The hull is the 16ft Eastport model (HIN says 1967, title says 1971) with most of the original wood interior. This particular c.1960 hull has cracking and crazing. IMG_6925_.jpg IMG_6916_.jpg IMG_6942.jpg Q1: Are any of these cracks and chips [see...

Re: Buying a 1960's Boston Whaler
jimh, thanks for the great answers. Really appreciate that! I had read through the FAQ's and reference section a couple of times, and I wanted to make sure I was interpreting them correctly. Thanks again for the clarifications. Hopefully I'll find a decent candidate for restoration. I'm sure I'll be...

Buying a 1960's Boston Whaler
Hi—I want to buy a c.1960 Boston Whaler boat as a restoration project. I really like the styling of the Nauset, Eastport, and Sakonnet, the mahogany center console and seats, and the blue cockpit. When browsing I've noticed that there are a lot of [used Boston Whaler] boats advertised as a 1960 17-f...
