I kept searching and was able to learn that the last 2 digit is the length, so found a 12ft cable TELEFLEX SSX17712 at this site with 1 last in stock.

Re: Mechanical Steering Cable Stuck
A 12-foot cable is out of stock.
Baystar customer support replied to me with my hydraulics question.
Boat specifications were given at 12-foot cable measured
BayStar HK4300A-3 plus hoses HO51xx
12 feet + 2 feet = 14 feet
West Marine has in stock. More expensive.
Is it worth it?

Thanks again. I don't know where to begin on how to remove the helm. Please see attached pictures. received_797593664954986.jpeg received_756101925430014.jpeg Q3: Can the bellow and cover and tilt mechanism still be reused in conjunction with the new helm? I sprayed [something] with PB Blaster and WD40. I will do more work on July 3, 2022.
Q2: what do you recommend to replace the mechanical steering?
The cable is 11-feet.

Re: Mechanical Steering Cable Stuck
I will attempt just to dislodge as per the FAQ you shared.
My mechanic must have been doing just this every maintenance and it cost $200. Then the steering is stuck again mid year.
I may disconnect the cable from the helm and have someone pull while I hammer the rod out.

Mechanical Steering Cable Stuck
The original steering cable stuck. Plan is to clean by removing the cable from the tube. I disassembled the arm, however it seems there is not enough space to push the cable out.
Q1: is there a way to push the cable out without removing the engine?
1997 Dauntless 17 DC
115 Mercury two-stroke

Re: 1997 Dauntless 17 Re-power
Update: I got a call that Suzuki outboard arrived. The price is $15,000--I might as well give them my boat at that price. And a new dashboard will be an extra cost. I am staying with the original engine, the 1997 Mercury 115-HP outboard engine--it is durable.

Thanks Jim. I might consider 90 hp to cut costs. I remember I used to get max speed just over 40 mph. Now just 33 mph and I am fine with it. I am waiting for quotes and call back. I think I can ask smart questions now.

Batteries are my concern, too. The boat batteries are on the port side console. However, I also have two batteries for the trolling motor on the starboard side console. I need to mention these to the dealers on their weight considerations. One dealer mentioned that they have experienced with Montauk...

1997 Dauntless 17 Re-power
How would a Suzuki DF100b perform on 1997 Dauntless 17 Dual Console? The original engine was a 1997 Mercury 115-HP two-stroke-power-cycle. BACKSTORY I moved to Houston from Florida. My house is very near a private boat ramp to Clear Lake thence to Galveston Bay. My 1997 Dauntless is just perfect her...

Re: Install flush mount rod holder
Message well received :-). So far the only hole I made is for the flush mount compass. In this case, I might just think of a way to expand the accessory table top with 2 rod holders on the transom. Or find an "arm" accessory that attaches to the motor railing and expand to both stern and p...

I've had McGard locks on the twin Revolution 4 propellers on my 1984 Outrage 25 since I bought it - I trailer it exclusively.
