Re: Remote Shift Control Cable Too Tight

I will have a look and report back. A repair may not be as difficult as I thought.

Remote Shift Control Cable Too Tight

[At end of season 2022] work was done on a remote shift cable, which had snapped. The new cable feels too tight. When my hand is removed from the shift-throttle land, the handle pulls back. As a result, I cannot set an engine speed, unless I keep my hand on the shift-throttle remote control handle. ...

Expected Cost for Steering Repair

In 2019 I bought a 2002 Dauntless 160. The steering has always been rough. To have a smoother steering would be nice. Give me a quote for the cost of parts and labor to fix the rough steering on my 2002 DAUNTLESS 160 which is on the south shore of Massachusetts. For readers near me, recommend a trus...

Navigation Lamps Not Illuminating

Explain a method for finding the cause of all navigation lamps on a boat failing to illuminate. Q1: should I try replacing the lightbulb in the combined sidelight lamp and see if that remedies the problem? Q2: does the entire white all-round pole lamp need replacement/ Q3: where can a replacement la...

Mercury 115 Swivel Pin / Lower Yoke Retaining Clip let go

I have '02 Mercury 2 Stroke 115 ELPTO on the back of my Dauntless 160. I recently noticed some play in the lower yoke (up and down) and noticed a retaining clip had fallen down. After looking at a manual, my guess is the bead in which it snapped into had corroded away, no longer giving it an edge to...

Re: 2001 Dauntless 16 Replacement Windshield; Sump Pump; Bottom Paint

Thanks to all who replied. I apologize for the double questions and change of terminology (sump pump vs bilge). I didn't type those. WHOEVER proofreads these and changes the language before it is posted took some incorrect liberties. They will probably change this as well. Let someone speak for them...

2001 Dauntless 16 Replacement Windshield; Sump Pump; Bottom Paint

I am starting to do some Spring tune-ups on my [2001--ALWAYS USE FOUR DIGITS FOR YEAR] Dauntless [16]. It's my first Spring with the boat. [The boat's] windshield is extremely beat up and needs replacing. Q1: Where can I purchase [a replacement windshield for 2001 DAUNTLESS 16]? Q2: what is the appr...

Re: Gel Coat Repair

I went to West Marine and saw they had a few different options for gel coat resin for repairs. Upon hearing that [the damaged areas to be repaired] were fairly small, they directed me towards an all-in-one tube of gel coat resin that doesn't require any mixing. This product was offered in white and ...

Re: Gel Coat Repair

Jim, Thank you for the detailed response. I think I can get away with just using the gel coat resin. I contacted Spectrum with my boat year/make/model and they insist I must reach out to Boston Whaler for the correct coloring. I'm having a hard time finding the right contact. Any info in that regard...

Gel Coat Repair

My [160 DAUNTLESS boat] is winterized, covered, and resting in my driveway. I noticed a gouge on the [starboard] side of the hull that was likely a result of a poor docking attempt. I found countless methods of repair [on-line]. Q1: what [method of repair] is recommend for a nickel-sized gouge? Q2: ...

Re: Dauntless 16 Engine Mounting Height, Propeller Pitch

I have this same exact boat and same concerns and curiosities about my 2001 Dauntless 16 with a Mercury 115-HP (2+2). I bought [the boat in the summer of 2020] and figured I’d use it for one season before tackling any changes. Top boat speed is 31 to 33-MPH. I have a 17-pitch 13.25-inch aluminum fou...

Re: 160 Dauntless 115-HP Propeller Recommendation

The damaged propeller was a Quiksilver 13 x19 three-blade. I had access to a Turning Point three-blade 17-pitch. I figured I'd give it a go as it seemed to be in the ballpark of what most were recommending for my boat and engine. My engine is rated for 5280-RPM on sticker. Explain to me what that me...

Re: New Boater Buys 2001 160 Dauntless

Thank you Jim [and] Golden. I went out this morning as it was flat calm. I was able safely to open up [the throttle on the 115-HP Mercury engine] a bit. [The boat speed] topped out at 33.8-MPH. Golden: what you said seems spot-on in my extremely limited experience thus far. I was keeping track today...

Re: New Boater Buys 2001 160 Dauntless

Thanks for all the input "friends." Much appreciated. I have taken [the 2001 160 DAUNTLESS] fout times in the past week, mostly idling around Mattapoisett Harbor, and making shorter ventures into deeper waters, but never too far from land, and never alone. These trips have been a lot of fu...

Re: New Boater Buys 2001 160 Dauntless

Thanks the search result link—very helpful. I appreciate the simple, but important tips. I will not be taking the boat out on my own for quite some time. I have no desire to do so until I feel comfortable.

New Boater Buys 2001 160 Dauntless

I recently purchased my first boat, a 2001 160 Dauntless I am completely new to boating in every way. While I was inexperienced in my search, I did have friends who helped guide me in the process. I am putting the boat in the water this weekend. What should be paid close attention? The previous owne...
