Starting 1976 Evinrude 40 After Storage
At the end of 2020 I purchased a 1978 Sport 13 with an originial Evinrude 40-HP engine. The engine was running when I garaged it for the winter in a heated garage. I did not do anything before storing it—I should have—and now I am trying to starts the engine and get it running for the 2021 summer. G...

Re: 1978 SPORT 13 Dismantling Steering System
I just the impression from the few comments here that it would be difficult (or not fun). Other reading I have done makes the re-spooling of the cable on the steering wheel sound challenging too. Either way, I do plan to keep the original, and will post as I run into problems. Thanks

Re: 1978 SPORT 13 Dismantling Steering System
[Removing the wire rope an pulley steering] is sounding a little daunting. I don’t see that I have any other option if I want to restore the boat.
It appears that a lot of owners replace the rope wire and pulley steering system--which I don’t want to do. Is that because it’s so hard to reinstall?

1978 SPORT 13 Dismantling Steering System
I am at a point on my 1978 13 Sport where I need to remove the engine, move it to a stand, and then remove the remaining interior parts. First I need advice on the removal of the wire rope and pulley steering system and the tension spring at the engine. Is there a process and an easy way to do this,...

Re: 1978 Sport 13 Restoration
biggiefl,
you said the motor is a 1976. Sounds like you may have experience with these Evinrudes.
I'm wondering if you know other details about this model, and where I could find the model number/serial number, and possibly get a manual online, or other info.
Thanks

Re: 1978 SPORT 13 SOURPUSS
Thanks for the advice here to focus on the cleaning of the hull. I did a test run on the transom today. Used Bar keepers friend and a quick scrub and was a major improvement. I was a little hesitant to use the MaryKate in my driveway because of how strong/caustic it is (as I read more about it). Use...

Re: 1978 SPORT 13 SOURPUSS
Thank you for the comments. I've been quickly convince that I should try to clean the hull, use compund and try to keep original. May seem basic, and it also may be a function of what I discover as I try to remove it, but do I need to remove all of the bottom paint in order to apply a new coat of bo...

1978 SPORT 13 SOURPUSS
I recently purchased this 1978 SPORT 13 SOURPUSS to restore as close to original with my 3 kids. Our goal is to complete it in the off season so it can be used next summer. 1978 Sport 13 Restoration
I just purchased a 1978 13-footer that I believe is all original and a SPORT model. I'm new to Boston Whaler ownership (and to Forums). I plan to work with my kids ro restore the boat to as original as possible before next summer. In the future I will ask questions. I will appreciate any advice and ...
