Re: Evinrude Rumors

I don't have any information about what the new product that will be made at the old E-TEC plant. Maybe it will be the previously touted Project Ghost or Project M. From the descriptions BRP has offered, I am having a hard time seeing how this "revolutionary" concept is different from inb...

Re: Evinrude Rumors

Sad news. But perhaps they will store the tooling for another go at it in the future.

Re: Problems with Older Boats

The age is not as significant as the prior use (or abuse). I recently purchased and restored a 1973 13'. Fortunately, the hull was basically sound, with no waterlogging at all, and fiberglass problems that were easily repaired by a fiberglass novice (me). That said, looking back, the work required t...

Re: Evinrude Rumors

If BRP held on to the ETEC tooling then it is conceivable. To re-start from scratch would be a monumental task. Top There is an anecdote that the Seiko management at one point had determined that with the development of quartz movements reaching maturity, all-mechanical watches were passé. They ord...

Re: 13-Footer Owners With Auxiliary Engines

A1: 30. A2: I have a British Seagull 2-HP engine that I plan to restore and perhaps take along on my 13-footer. A3: For main engines I have seen a classic Evinrude 70-HP three-cylinder two-stroke-powr-cycle engine on a SPORT [13] with remote controls. I wouldn't [use a 70-HP engine on a SPORT 13]. I...

Re: 13' Standard 30-HP: Propeller for Water Skiing

Jim, thanks again for your thoughtful replies. I did install a Tiny Tach right on the tiller; it was easy to do, although I followed the setup instructions, it read double RPM at first, but I got that straightened out and it now reads correctly. On my second and third sea trials I was able to evalua...

Re: 13' Standard 30-HP: Propeller for Water Skiing

My research indicates that a BRP Tachometer with System Check will only report engine speed and Low Oil when used with the 15HO, 25, and 30 motors. https://www.manualslib.com/manual/825282/Evinrude-E-Tec-2011-Series.html?page=26#manual Since it is easy enough to make sure the reservoir has sufficien...

Re: 13' Standard 30-HP: Propeller for Water Skiing

I am not familiar with the required rigging for “portable” E-TEC engines. Refer to the Operating Guide for advice. There are LEDs on the EMM. Here is what the operating guide says: WARNING SYSTEM - S.A.F.E. This outboard is equipped with Speed Adjusting Failsafe Electronics (S.A.F.E.). S.A.F.E. is ...

Re: 13' Standard 30-HP: Propeller for Water Skiing

Thank you, Jim for taking the time to respond. I am certainly aware how small boats are very sensitive to crew weight. I suppose I was hoping for someone who had had a similar quest and could therefore give me a shortcut answer. Too optimistic, perhaps. As far as installing an Evinrude tach, keep in...

Re: 13' Standard 30-HP: Propeller for Water Skiing

I ordered both the [new] propellers [of undesignated pitch, perhaps a 10 x 10 and a second 10 x 11] , but I cannot return either if the propeller was used. I could re-sell as a slightly-used proeller. When I posted the original message, I had not yet had the boat on the water. I was leaning toward t...

13' Standard 30-HP: Propeller for Water Skiing

I have a classic 13 Standard with Evinrude E-TEC 30 HP. I already have a three-bladed 10 x 13 BRP stainless propeller for speed with light loads. I want to purchase a four-bladed stainless propeller that optimizes four adults in the boat, or two adults in the boat and one adult waterskier. No fancy ...

Re: 1970 13-footer Hull Repairs

Aschubox—My 13-footer hull had some crazing and some damage to the fiberglass at the chines and [runners]. In several places the foam was visible, but fortunately the previous owner had put some 3M5200 adhesive sealant in those places and I was able to verify no water absorption in the foam. I did f...

Re: Identify Boston Whaler 13-foot Hull

I contacted Boston Whaler customer service, and posed questions about my boat. They were very courteous and willing to help. However, I do not believe the rep was completely familiar with the 13-footer history. Over several emails, I got some mixed answers. At first, the rep said he could not find t...

Re: Identify Boston Whaler 13-foot Hull

I actually wanted a 15-inch transom since I have a 1981 Evinrude 25-HP Worktwin with tiller and low hours that I plan to use on the boat. The Evinrude has a 15-inch shaft. It should be a good match both in terms of power and vintage. Regarding the green line, I will perhaps find that when restoring....

Re: Identify Boston Whaler 13-foot Hull

Well, I do see your point about the rounded corners. The notch just looked like it was factory because I saw no evidence of modification. Perhaps I will know more after I remove the blue paint. The paint is peeling, so I don't think it was a professional job.

Re: Identify Boston Whaler 13-foot Hull

OK, first, thanks to everyone who posted a reply. But it seems I posted my question prematurely. I had been working off of the hull number on the title, which was mailed to me. I bought the boat over the phone, based on an in-person inspection by a friend and photos he sent, including the capacity p...

Identify Boston Whaler 13-foot Hull

At 72-years-old I finally realized a nearly lifelong ambition, and I am now the owner of a Boston Whaler 13-foot bare hull. I want to configure it as a Standard tiller-steering model. I know [this particular Boston Whaler 13-foot hull] was originally one of the steering wheel models because it has a...
