Re: E-TEC Engine: Maintenance History After Ten Seasons

It’s just my opinion, but I would change my gear case lube every fall during winter layup, regardless of what the owners manual says. Cheap insurance against lube problems such as water intrusion. Even if water is not found to exist in the lube, it is not possible to determine the quality of the use...

It’s pretty common for wasps to build nests in the spring. I have attached fiberglass window screen over all openings in the console. If you attach from the back side, it won’t be seen from the outside. No more problems with wasps!

Re: 1999 17 OUTRAGE II Fuel Hose Replacement

There is another post from 2020 that talks about this project. The user name is NLA2 ( which is me). I started the post prior to me doing the job. As I reread my update, I did indeed purchase 17 ft of hose, but the old hose was only 13.5 ft long, so I guess I purchased a little too much. I recommend...

If you search in repairs and modifications using “1998 outrage 17 fuel leak” you will find a post with pictures of the fuel tank cavity, fuel tank, fuel lines, and the access hole that the fuel line comes out of when it exits the rigging tunnel and turns back toward the tank. I have a 1996 17 Outrage ll. I performed this exact fuel hose replacement (from the below deck fuel tank to the starboard stern). It is not a particularly difficult job. The fuel hose runs from the stern ,through the rigging tunnel, under the deck, on the starboard side of the boat. The rigging tunn...

If done correctly, the barrier coat will last many yea...

I have a 1996 17 OUTRAGE ll boat. In 2000, 22-years ago, I barrier-coated [the hull bottom], and I applied Micron CSC [anti-fouling paint]. Re: 1998 17 OUTRAGE II: Unusual hole and plug in hull liner

The fuel tank cavity drain plug is located near the bottom of the large storage box located below the deck near the stern of the boat. Water accumulates in this box from multiple sources. Without the drain plug installed, water will enter the fuel tank cavity. It is best to keep this cavity as dry a...

Re: 1998 17 OUTRAGE II: Unusual hole and plug in hull liner

[The c.1998 17 OUTRAGE II boats] have a through-hull fitting on the starboard side of the transom. If this thruough-hull becomes submerged—possibly due to weight—water will enter and possibly enter the rigging tunnel on the starboard side of the boat. Re: 1998 OUTRAGE II Unspecified Length: Three Questions about Water On Deck Path to Sea

[On a 1998 17 OUTRAGE II hull] water can enter the rigging tunnel via the through-hull drain in the starboard stern of the boat. This is the same area where a two-stroke oil tank [would be] located. If enough water enters here, it can migrate to the center line of the [area] below the fuel tank. The...

The problem you’re experiencing is not due to air pockets, but likely due to the laminate under the gel coat not being wetted-out properly during molding.

I agree with Outrage20. I’ve owned more than a dozen different boats and they all rode much better with the bow down into a head sea. Trim tabs will help with this.
