Rule Automatic Bilge Pump
Here's a fun one: the automatic water sensor feature of my Rule 500 GPH bilge pump stopped working. With the pump completely submerged, it will not automatically activate. I use the three-way Rule toggle switch for the pump with the following positions: auto to the left, off in the middle, and sprin...

Re: E-TEC NMEA 2000 Data for Simrad GO7
After checking with Simrad over the winter and launching for the 2018 season I confirmed that total engine hours can be found in the Trip Intel area of the GO7.

Re: E-TEC NMEA 2000 Data for Simrad GO7
Jim - Thanks. Great article. Couldn't have learned about the [lack of TRIM data in the three-cylinder engine] anywhere else. I'm going to do a deeper dive with Simrad to see if I can find how to display, or at least view engine hours.

E-TEC NMEA 2000 Data for Simrad GO7
I've recently installed a Simrad GO7 XSE in my boat (love it) and networked it to my 2009 E-TEC 90 HP motor. Using the GO7's standard "Instrument" display, I've been able to configure the unit to display RPM, Temperature, Alternator, Battery, and Load. I have been unable to get Engine Trim...

Re: Future of Marine Charts in USA
Converting to [the Metric system of length measurement] won't make much difference if your plotter malfunctions or you suffer a loss of power. Where will your map be then?

Re: Filling Holes in Center Console
Rich - You nailed it. There's no wood backing where the repair is needed. I'll use layers of fiberglass to make the repair. Thanks to all.

Filling Holes in Center Console
I am relocating a new electronic unit on my 1987 Montauk center console, (The new device will not fit where the older, smaller unit is located.) I'm looking for recommendations or reference links on a good way to fill in the bracket mounting holes (two screw holes and one one-inch diameter hole) lef...

Re: Price help 1987 Montauk 17
Try to check how the hull sits in the water before you decide. I have the same boat. While I'm still happy with it, I wish I had paid more attention to that prior to buying it. Many Whalers of this age have water in the hull, and mine sits lower than it should with a slight list to the port side. Ha...

Re: Repairing (Not Replacing) Drain Tubes
admirable! And great pics, too! I've gone from "no intention of pulling the motor" to possibly considering it. Anyone have experience doing this with a jack plate setup? Is it possible to simply unbolt the jack plate, leaving the motor attached, or does the motor block access to the jack p...

Re: Repairing (Not Replacing) Drain Tubes
A couple of follow-up questions: Phil - I have a 90 hp E-Tec. (At the risk of showing my ignorance,) without a mechanical hoist of some kind, how is removing it a DIY job? I'd attempt it if it didn't involve busting a gut. Jim - Is there some other safety or performance related concern with running ...

Re: Repairing (Not Replacing) Drain Tubes
Other than serving to drain the transom well (and run transducer cable through), how important are these drain tubes to the overall function of the boat? Hypothetically, if I were to remove the damaged tubes and solid fill the voids, what might the consequences be beyond needing to find another way ...

Re: Repairing (Not Replacing) Drain Tubes
Unless the Marelon tubes are flexible, there's just not enough clearance in the well to slide a rigid tube through from inside to outside.

Did Specialty Marine have a name or part number for the compression ring? I need one, too.

Repairing (Not Replacing) Drain Tubes
My 1988 Montauk's two transom well drain tubes are corroded and surely are allowing water to enter the hull. I am unable to replace them because the boat has been fitted with a jack plate that partially covers the tube openings on the exterior of the transom. The only way to replace the tubes would ...

Re: Trouble Manually Raising 2009 E-TEC 90
Well, I guess I'm not a wimp after all. After failing to lift it along with two other adult males, I called a local "mobile" engine mechanic who came by with his pneumatic jack. We very slowly pumped the motor up to the point where I could engage the trailering bracket. I'll find out the r...

Trouble Manually Raising 2009 E-TEC 90
The tilt-trim mechanism [on a 2009 Evinrude E-TEC 90-HP outboard engine] is on the fritz. I was able to lower the engine by loosening the manual release screw. Now the motor is in the full-down position and I can't get it to budge in an upwards direction in order to engage the trailering bracket. I'...
