Bottom Paint / Water Line

Hi All, I am having a local marina sand, prime and bottom paint my new to me 16/17. The boat has neevr had bottom paint. I plan to keep the boat in the water on mooring whips at my home all summer. The marina said they will drop the boat in to get the water line. Should I ask them to pull the drain ...

Length of Lower Drain Tube, 1969 16-footer

On a 1969 16-footer, I noticed the "lower" drain tube does not go completely through the transom. The drain tube only goes about 5 to 6-inches then stops. I can feel an opening with my finger from inside the boat. I used a string to push through and measure. The measurement was 20 to 22-in...

Re: Deduce Model from Stencil Number

Hi All,
Just spoke with Bost Whaler. They were able to confirm my boat was a 17ft Katama built in July of 1968!

Re: Deduce Model from Stencil Number

Wow that would be incredible if they still have those books and can track down the number. I will try and contact them. Thanks!

Re: APPRAISAL: 1969 16-footer

Tested and purchased the boat today! It ran excellent, very quick and nimble. I’m excited to learn and work on the Whaler. Thank you all for your replies and help!

Re: 1969 16-footer Paint or Gel Coat

[I am not] trying to talk myself out of buying the boat. I am trying to make an educated decision [whether to buy the boat or not]. I have never owned any boat. I am looking for all the information I can get so I can understand what I am getting into.

Re:1969 16-footer Paint or Gel Coat

That is how [the deck surface of the cockpit] felt: almost chalky. And the deck showed shoe footprints right away. Can using a boat in saltwater with [chalking and soft] gel coat cause problems? Will I need to buff and restore [the chalking and soft gel coat] right away? Is [soft and chalking gelcoa...

1969 16-footer Paint or Gel Coat

After looking at photos of other Boston Whaler boats, I am realizing that [a 1969 16-footer I may buy] doesn’t have gel coat. When I viewed the boat in person, the [cockpit finish] seems dull and matte. Is a [dull and matte finish to the cockpit of a restored 1969 16-footer] a problem [to be repaire...

Sea Trial

During a seal trial [of a 53-year-old Boston Whaler boat which has been extensively modified] what specifically should be looked for?

I may purchase [the 1969 16-footer] if sea trial goes well.

Re: APPRAISAL: 1969 16-footer

What is the basis for determining the boat was a 1969 model year? [The seller] was told the [model] year by a previous owner. There is a number on the transom, but I forgot to write it down when looking at the boat. [The seller is] asking $8,000. From what I’ve seen listed here in New Jersey, that ...

APPRAISAL: 1969 16-footer

[Moved to MARKETPLACE as the thread evolved into a request for APPRAISAL of a particular boat--Moderator] I may buy a 1969 16-footer that was restored by the current owner. The engine is model year 2003 and almost looks new; the trailer is new and has never been in water. A custom cover is included....
