Re: 1996 17 OUTRAGE II Re-power E-TEC 150

I repowered my 1996 Outrage 17II with a 2011 Evinrude E-TEC 150 G1 in 2013. It is a great fit for the boat and delivers excellent performance. The engine weight of 425 pounds is right at the maximum weight that Whaler advised when I inquired before repowering. I believe the G2 V-6 E-TEC motors are h...

Re: Mercury Electronic Shift and Throttle Control Handle as a Replacement Part

Unfortunately I have the same problem with my [remote engine shift and throttle] lever. The replacement part # 877741A23 has been discontinued by Mercury, as has the complete "slim" [top-mounting remote control] #896609A01. The lever does appear to be metal, so it could possibly be re-chro...

Re: Through-hull Drain and Scupper Replacement

I have [a c.1999 17 Outrage II]. I am considering [replacement of the through-hull drains and scuppers]. What are the correct replacement parts [for the through-hull drains and scuppers of a c.1999 17 OUTRAGE II]? I think the scuppers are Perko 0343D. I can't figure out the [OEM part number for the]...

Re: Moving up to MONTAUK 17 or OUTRAGE 18

I believe the 1997 Dauntless 17 pictured was based upon the Outrage 17II hull of similar vintage. If so, it will have more of a deep V hull shape but would probably be too small for SF Bay. It would be underpowered as well in my opinion, as the max horsepower for the Outrage 17II is 150hp.

Re: 1997 Outrage 17 II Re-power

In response to the questions:

A1: The boat handled the weight just fine, but I would not want to have a heavier motor.

A2: I don’t have trim tabs and don’t feel I need them.

A3: The boat remains dry with the scuppers above the waterline at rest.

Re: 1997 Outrage 17 II Re-power

I repowered my 1996 Outrage 17 II with an E-TEC 150 in 2013. I replaced the original 1996 Evinrude 150. The E-TEC at 425-lbs weighs about 50-lbs more than the original engine, and it is the maximum weight recommended by Boston Whaler. I am running a 15-pitch Enertia propeller which results in a top ...

Re: 1999 Outrage 17, 150-HP

I have a 1996 Outrage 17 with a 2011 E-TEC 150 mounted two-holes up. After experimenting with a few propellers I settled on a Mercury ENERTIA with a pitch of 15. With this I get maximum engine speed of 5700-RPM--within the optimum recommended by Evinrude--and a top speed of approximately 46-MPH SOG ...

Re: NYC to Quebec via Hudson River

I live on northern Lake Champlain and I can confirm that it is not uncommon to have 2-3 foot chop with a very short period between waves. Typically during the summer the prevailing winds are from the south, so given the lake's north-south orientation it can get rough on a windy day. My boat is much ...
