Re: Odd TPS Error Behavior Montauk 150
Thanks jimh, that article is helpful, will use in my investigation. This is a 60hp EFI 4-stroke. I have not changed the CPS yet, will add to my list to test. I had similar experience with a Hyundai V6 where a failing catalytic converter, which results in higher heat in the cat which sits right over ...

Re: Odd TPS Error Behavior Montauk 150
Bob, thanks, this is helpful. Guess I will try that next. :D How did you determine this? Have voltmeter on it while running and watch the volts hit 15v? Did you have the TPS error etc? Any beeps when it cut out?

Re: Odd TPS Error Behavior Montauk 150
Thanks, that's definitely true. The stator, regulator, solenoid were all validated with readings, etc. The other three parts I changed cause I was right there when changing the TPS. I didn't test it, I did just replace based on the code, you're right. I have been testing, including the ignition circ...

Odd TPS Error Behavior Montauk 150
I have a 2006 Montauk 150, powered by Mercury 60-HP Bigfoot, serial 1B004506. I had some electrical problems that were caused by the engine charging system. I had to replace the regulator, stator and the starter solenoid, and the intake manifold air temp sensor. Engine runs fine on muffs or in neutr...

2006 Montauk 150 Fuel Hose Replacement
I have a 2006 Montauk 150. I am trying to replace the fuel hose that goes from the transom access panel on the starboard side to under the [helm] seat. [The fuel hose] seems very solidly in place; it [won't] move or shift no matter how hard I pull on either end. The rubber hose seems to be fixed in ...

Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT FOURSTROKE EFI: Remove Engine from Swivel Tube
Q1:can a Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT FOURSTROKE EFI engine be removed from the swivel tube without disassembling the powerhead and the lower unit? Q2: if the engine were to be supported from a hoist, can the lower cowling be removed and the engine mounting bolts be accessed? A picture or recorded presenta...

Re: Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT Tachometer Stopped Working
I played around a bit with [several undescribed elements of the tachometer or the wiring or the engine] and got [the tachometer] working better--but not great. [The tachometer] now seems to work somewhat realistically--except [the dial pointer] bottoms out at 500 (now even when the power is OFF) and...

Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT Tachometer Stopped Working
The tachometer on my boat with a Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT engine no longer works. [The onset of the failure of the tachometer to work was mentioned in another thread that was discussing the replacement of the voltage rectifier-regulator assembly . That topic has been separated to this thread so it can ...

Re: Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT Not Charging
FINAL OUTCOME The open water test is completed. {The battery voltage] was at 13.1-Volts at engine idle speed and increased to 13.8-Volts when the engine speed was increased to cruising speeds. I can't ask for much better. Thanks a million for getting me going here. [A new topic about the tachometer ...

Re: Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT Not Charging
FOLLOW UP In order to make sure the stator and flywheel were working as expected and that the AC could be rectified, I bought a bridge rectifier and hooked it to the stator coil output. I measured the voltage output from the bridge rectifier at 19-Volt DC at engine idle speed, increasing to almost 4...

Re: Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT Not Charging
The Mercuty 60-HP BIGFOOT engine now has a new battery and a new flywheel. I also tested the two regulators I bought; both had defects. They failed the diode tests in the manual (shorted from yellow to red leads). I got two new regulators, one cheap one off of Amazon and then a proper one directly f...

Re: Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT Not Charging
Thanks for the helpful responses. Answer to Q4: Yes, I have used the same battery as it has been holding a charge (was 12.1 volts after sitting a year). But I guess I should try a new one. A to Q5 and Q6: I did not test for N & S, I put them back on the way/direction that they were on before (th...

Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT Not Charging
My boat has a [c.2006] Mercury 60-HP BIGFOOT engine. The charging system is no working. in 2021 the engine stopped charging the battery. I found a fuse close to the Regulator Assembly was open and the fuse holder was melted. I replace the fuse (and holder) and Regulator Assembly having read that the...
