Re: Boat for Boston Harbor, New England Coast

I'm in Boston Harbor and the islands a few days a week, mostly with my 210 Montauk, but also my 130 Super Sport--and even my 9-foot skiff on select days. If I head out early in the morning, a 21-footer is fine, but by the afternoon, [Boston Harbor and the islands] turn into a washing machine. A low-...

Re: New 210 Montauk Order

[My boating is] on the ocean, but in a protected inlet, so when I take out the family they like to ride in the bow. The main reason I got the 210 MONTAUK was because it can fit four in the bow comfortably. My build sheet had the sun lounge, which is a package deal for the bow backrests and rod holde...

Re: Dealer Installation of Missing Rod Holders

Happy to report that the dealer took care of getting the new [rod holder] parts and doing the install [of the missing rod holders]. ASIDE: Other than the horrible steering wheel—which I had to upgrade—the [2023 210 MONTAUK] boat is admirable, and I'm loving the speed and acceleration of the 200[-HP ...

Re: Dealer Installation of Missing Rod Holders

It has long been known the quality of newly produced boats would suffer until the experience level of production staff increased and production levels matched the level of production staffing....In almost all reports, the owners reported the selling dealer or factory corrected the problems to the o...

Re: Dealer Installation of Missing Rod Holders

More likely there was a mistake in entering the order, and the four rod holders were not on the build sheet for this particular boat. Believe it or not, everyone missed [the omission of the four rod holders}, and they owned up to it. On the 210 MONTAUK in the build section on their web site, all of...

Re: Dealer Installation of Missing Rod Holders

The Boston Whaler factory sent the parts [to the dealer] and is going to honor the warranty because [the installation of the four rod holders that were omitted during assembly of the boat at the factory] is being done by [an authorized Boston Whaler] dealer. ASIDE: The new [boat now identified as a]...

Re: 170 MONTAUK Location of Chart Plotter

I think [the location on the console for the chart plotter on a 170 MONTAUK boat] is a matter of preference. I run my boats standing up only, so I like having at least one screen above the console because it's easier to see without looking too far down. In my last two boats, I've had VesselView mobi...

Re: Source for 8-foot Long Bimini Top

I've bought a couple of bimini tops (including poles/hardware/etc) from Amazon and been pleasantly surprised at the quality for the price. In addition to the width being within range, make sure you get the correct number of bows. You can also get support poles separately if the one you're looking at...

Re: MONTAUK 17 Bimini Top Length

Two-foot-itis applies to bimini tops, not just boat length!

I have a 6-foot top on my 9-foot skiff and sometimes I'd like an 8.

On a Montauk 17, I'd get a second bimini or maybe a sunshade for the bow.

Re: Dealer Installation of Missing Rod Holders

You want prevent them getting some yard nitwit cutting into your boat. You must have been to this yard before. Make sure the dealer uses the factory provided installation instructions (ask for a copy for your records) from Engineering . Have the dealer document the added installed accessory was dea...

Dealer Installation of Missing Rod Holders

I just took delivery of a new Boston Whaler [unidentified boat], and to my surprise [the Boston Whaler factory production] forgot to include four rod holders in the bow. These rod holders double as mounting points for the bow seating backrests. The dealer admitted [the error], and the dealer is goin...

Re: New 280 DAUNTLESS

I was in the process of downsizing from a mid-30s boat anyway, but at 28 feet it didn't feel small at all. I did like the sunpad seat just in front of the console, with the huge storage underneath. But to your point Phil, I can't see anyone spending that kind of money on a Dauntless unless they have...

Re: New 280 DAUNTLESS

I got to drive the 2022 280 DAUNTLESS hull #1 when I was looking for a Dauntless boat this summer. Because it was the demo boat, it had every available option including the Seakeeper and twin 300-HP engines. It might have been the one in that YouTube presentation, but I'm not sure. Afterwards I spec...
