Re: Converting Sport 15 to Center Console
Thanks Jim. When I first began work I had always planned to run the cables above deck. As you can see here I laid out the wood supporting the console and seat so that the cables could pass down the middle. The seat already had a tunnel that was perfect. Finding a suitable cable covering was difficul...

Yes, I thought about that. That is why even though I measured very carefully, I am glad the unit is smaller than I pictured it. I also ordered the dedicated wrench that unscrews the bowl. I came across a lot of discussion about stuck bowls that would not unscrew.

Flymo, yes, I've heard that rational before. I've been doing it this way since 1978 and I get many , many, years out of my outboard motors. I felt the fuel drool ( love that!) was dangerous. My feeling is that if a carb runs dry while the others are still running- there is no fuel left to wash the o...

UPDATE. All summer the thermostat seat kept coming loose. I didn't mind because once the water was warm it didn't affect anything. Now the water is cooling and it matters. So I tried another trick. I removed the seat, and cleaned it and the opening it sits in with acetone. Then I coated the seat and...

I finally received the Racor fuel-water seperator today after some Post Office shipping snafus. I am happy to say that it is much smaller than I expected. Re: 1976 40 Hp Johnson: Fuel Pours Out of Carburetor
As Jim stated, I have found with carburetors that, when tilted, fuel drips out. So at the end of the trip I always run the carbs dry. Even with doing that I notice some drips in my splash well. That means when I next start the motor I need to prime with the squeeze bulb. This gives me an opportunity...

I also was against opening the deck for a tunnel. Mostly it was because on every boat I looked at with one, it was full of grease and crud. I too am confused about the locker. On mine, if I leave the drain open to the sea, it fills with about 6 inches of water. That is not a good thing for storing an anchor, line , or anything else in that spot. If I plug it, then it fills to the top with rain water. So what I do is leave it plugged, an...

Just an update: the extended fuel pickup I installed in the 6 gallon tank worked great. I used the OMC metal pickup and some Sierra fuel line to get the pickup all the way to the back of the tank. As Jim said, it's probably the float/needle/seat assembly. Was the entire needle/seat changed? Sometimes "rebuilders" skip that. A brand new one should work fine as long as there is not debris getting in and jamming it open. Do you have a filter on the fuel line? I use a glass in-line filt...

I just don't know what to make of Racor's literature. While there is a lot of goods info-if you dig- there is no sense of compatibility between products.
