Understanding ICON Pro Gauge Lighting

Control of the illumination of the ICON Pro RPM and Speedometer gauges is a complex system. The RPM gauge contains the settings; the path to them is:

NORMAL MODE --> Branch to EDIT MENU (by pushing MODE button for 1-second)

EDIT MENU --> Branch to DISPLAY MENU (by pushing MODE button for 1-second)

DISPLAY MENU:

Menu options:

---> LIGHTING

--> CONTRAST

---> # OF SCREENS

---> PAGE SETUP

---> DFLT SCREEN

---> AUTO SCROLL

---> SET UNITS

---> CLOCK

DETAILS OF LIGHTING MENU
------> CONTROL
|
|-----DEPENDENT (means dial and LCD lighting are ganged)
|-----INDEPENDENT (means dial and LCD lighting are not ganged)

If DEPENDENT is chosen, then options SYSTEM and SOURCE appear;

------> SOURCE

|-----INSTRUMENT (use UP/DN buttons to control lighting)
|-----BUS DATA (use bus data from ICON EST control to control lighting)

------> SYSTEM

|------use UP/DN buttons to control lighting (0 to 100) and save setting
but only works if SOURCE is set to INSTRUMENT

If INDEPENDENT is chosen, then SYSTEM disappears,
and four new menu options appear:
ADJUST LCD, LCD SOURCE, ADJUST DIAL, DIAL SRC

-----> LCD SOURCE
|
|-----INSTRUMENT (use UP/DN buttons to control lighting)
|-----BUS DATA (use bus data from ICON EST control to control lighting)

-----> DIAL SOURCE
|
|-----INSTRUMENT (use UP/DN buttons to control lighting)
|-----BUS DATA (use bus data from ICON EST control to control lighting)

-----> ADJUST LCD: use UP/DN buttons to control lighting (0 to 100)
and save setting but only works if LCD SOURCE is INSTRUMENT

-----> ADJUST DIAL: use UP/DN buttons to control lighting (0 to 100)
and save setting but only works if DIAL SRC is INSTRUMENT

That graphical menu should be a big help. I should be back down there on Friday or Saturday to play more before I put them back in the boat. For my 69 year old eyes, the displays are very hard to read in daylight anyhow.
At the very least, I got to learn a little about NMEA 2000 anyhow. I had no idea how these gauges communicated.

I was also wondering since I was able to get my Garmin 73CV to communicate with the backbone, will that provide GPS data to the speedometer (data source is set to GPS) or do I need to revert to the NMEA hock puck GPS?

I took a look at the article. I think the lighting options are just that—"lighting".

My problem is with the "contrast" setting.
