The Space Force’s GPS III SV-05 was successfully placed into a transition orbit on Thursday, June 17, 2021, by a previously-flown SpaceX FALCON-9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral.

The FALCON-9 booster made a beautiful landing, seen live on the broadcast, onto the autonomous spaceport drone ship at sea. The technology on display was amazing, including getting live motion pictures from space from several cameras as the second stage continued its ascent and the first stage descended to a landing at sea. Without Elon Musk NASA would probably still be buying rockets from Vladimir Putin, as it did for many years prior to SpaceX developing an alternative source.
