Once an AIS device is approved by the USCG, it can then be approved by the FCC. Finding information about approved devices from the FCC is more difficult, as there thousands and thousands of devices which must be approved by the FCC. The FCC has a website that allows searching of approved devices. See

EQUIPMENT AUTHORIZATION SEARCH
https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ ... Search.cfm

To facilitate searching for a particular manufacturer, it is very useful to know the manufactor's "Grantee FCC ID" code. Here is a list of those codes for several manufacturers of marine electronics, particularly radios and AIS transponders, which will greatly improve searching the FCC approved products database:

FCC ID Codes for Marine Electronics Companies
    SRT Marine Systems = UYW
    Yaesu Musen (Standard-Horizon) = K66, AKH
    Navico = RAY
    Lowrance (some limited products)= D6N
    Alltek Marine Electronics = WZ7
    Garmin = IPH
    Uniden = AMW
    Vesper = YJD
    Icom = AFJ, CFE
    Raymarine = PJ5

Other criteria can be used to narrow the search results. Useful parameters for improved searching may be:

    FINAL ACTION DATE RANGE; set a date range limit to more recent dates to find the latest approvals
    APPLICATION PURPOSE: set to "Original Grant" to find the initial device approval
    EQUIPMENT CLASS: set to GVH-Part 80 VHF Transmitter (GMDSS); (results unpredictable)
