In an article in the REFERENCE section I have written about the history of the VHF Marine Band and its channelization. Below is a simplified chart of VHF Marine Band radio channels taken from that article that shows which channels are available for a recreational boat to use. This presentation eliminates the many other channels that are not available for recreational boats and should reduce confusion about what channels can be used and for what purpose.
Note: use 1022 only when directed by the USCG.

I revised the chart shown above in Figure 1 to include the newly authorized AIS3 and AIS4 channels used for long-range transmission and reception of AIS.
