Best Practices for selling a 1965 Boston Whaler Nauset

Hi,

I am new to this forum and am interested in understanding what best practices I should be considering when selling my 1965 Boston Whaler Nauset. I live in Toronto and the boat is stored in Parry Sound Ontario. It only is used 2-3 months a year and only on weekends. Questions I have in my head;

1. Is the US market a better place to start, less seasonal than the Canadian market?
2. How do I determine the value of the boat?
3. Is it a desirable boat to specific demographics or collectors / enthusiasts?
4. Are there any groups I could connect with to broaden my search for a buyer?
5. I assume simply placing an add on facebook market place would not generate the right buyer?

Let me know any or all answers to the above questions, thanks in advance for reading or sharing your insights?

I have sold three Boston Whalers. The first sale was accomplished by allowing my local Boston Whaler dealer to sell the boat on a consignment basis. I detailed the boat and the dealer located it in a visible spot amongst his inventory. When he sold the boat I paid a 10% commission.

The second and third boats were sold by listing them on Craigslist. They sold quickly at my asking price and there was no fee for the listing.

I have been told that Facebook is another good site for selling a boat. Finally, listing your boat for sale on Continuouswave is a good option.

Perhaps using several selling options would result in a faster sale.

Do not price your boat too high and be prepared to negotiate. Don't be insulted by lowball offers. Any offer may ultimately result in a sale. Beware of the various scams one may encounter when selling online. Good luck.

Any idea what an appropriate asking price would be? Here are some of the details;

1. Center console replaced 5 years ago - purchased from Specialty Marine
2. 2000 Honda 90 HP 4 stroke engine
3. new helm and stearing cable this year
4. needs some minor fiberglass repairs where railings screws have come loose
5. Original seat would need refinishing

My challenge is where to start from a price stand point, I dont want to turn buyers away if the starting price is not in range

I wish I could help you with pricing but I'm no longer tuned into current values. Recently jimh, our moderator, provided a means of getting an AI recommended value on a Boston Whaler boat. I was surprised at how complete the pricing recommendation was. Perhaps a site search would help you find his post. Better yet, perhaps he will respond to your question.
