1972 Hull Color

I am trying to find the color number for the exterior hull. It is a 17 footer 1972 with blue interior?

The bottom has been painted and I am having it professional stripped. I am trying to decide to either paint it the original hull color to try and make it look like the bottom has never has been painted or just paint it blue or black.

If I paint it blue or black what was the color by in the early 70s that most people used?

Thanks,

Craig

The exterior was just plain old pure white on a 1972 16'7" (16' not 17') Nonsmirked hull.

Back in the day most would have bottom painted it black, blue or red. Back then like today, there was no right or wrong color and there is no empirical data to point to for you to figure out which was more popular. If I was to guess, I would say black....But it's your boat. Paint it whatever color you want.

Hell, if it were me and I was bottom painting an old 16, I would paint it vivid white so it looks like it does not have bottom paint at all.

Jeff,

Since I am going to match the hull color for the bottom. What do you suggest for the type of paint that best matches the Gel coat?

The boat will be on a trailer and not in the water for any extended time.
