I was aware of this model but had never noticed one come up for sale until now:

For those of you who enjoy restoring older Boston Whalers, this might be a rare opportunity?

When I was first in the market for a larger Boston Whaler boat, there was a Boston Whaler YANKEE VOYAGER 22 for sale locally in southeast Michigan. Sometimes I wonder how my Boston Whaler ownership might have progressed differently if I had bought that boat. It seemed to be in very good condition. As I recall it has sterndrive power.

That one in New Jersey has been for sale for some time. It is a wreck. I know someone who looked at it in person.

This one below has been listed in Windsor Ontario and was last listed at $6500 US. It never sold. If someone really wanted one, that is the better route to take. The one in New Jersey needs $15,000 - $20,000 to get it back in order...All for a boat that is worth less than the investment.

"This is a 1976 Boston Whaler Yankee Voyager. Prior to Whaler building these the design was done by Ray Hunt for HiLiner and they manufactured them as a HiLiner 222. After Whaler stopped producing them, I believe Nauset Marine bought the molds and continued production.

As you can see in the images below, it looks to be in really nice shape. It even has the rarer optional steering wheel from the Revenges of the day. The only thing is, I wish it had a MerCruiser I/O instead of the OMC Stringer drive. The MerCruiser would have at least been serviceable into the future. That said, a nice bracket and Outboard conversion would be perfect for this boat if the OMC fails.

Also, even though it shows it was for sale in the Wallceberg, On. it shows Michigan MC #'s. So, it must have came from Michigan or the owner is a US resident and the with the MC's ending in KL, it indicatse it likely has been in Michigan since new.

I see a lot of resemblance in their SWINGER model to the later Boston Whaler TEMPTATION boats.

Ray Hunt must have spent a short afternoon designing that hull. It is a direct copy of his 20 and 25 feet Bertram. The 22 feet puts it right between both of those hulls. It must have been tough to compete with Bertram with an almost direct copy.--rich

I thought the Voyager was only a concept. The hull looks very nice. Makes you think what could've been if Whaler would change to v-hulls that early.

I've had a couple of the HiLiner 21 Sportsman boats--very nice riding hulls. One had a 302 Ford with a Volvo outdrive and it was a great boat with a top speed of around 40-nautical-miles-per-hour.

The other was a gutted mess which was gifted to me by one of my well-drilling customers. Being that the 327 Chevy was shot and had been coupled to an OMC sterndrive, I decided that since I had to fill in the big hole in the transom, I might as well rebuild the entire transom and put a bracket on it. [Restoring the transom] was a ton of work and a fortune in West Epoxy and mat, but [the Hiliner 21 sterndrive boat converted to outboard engine with bracket] came out nicely and moved along with a 175 Johnson.

I prefer outboards over sterndrives but the hull with the sterndrive was a much better boat overal: nice smooth riding, dry hulls, and running fast in a little chop and spray my wife was a lot happier than riding in the outrage 21 in the same conditions.

I've noticed that most of those big curved windshields on the 222's have hazed over time--no idea how you could replace one of those.

Unless the stringers are totally shot--which isn't a big deal anyway because they're glass over foam, not wood--I would consider one of these hulls well worth some time and effort. Who makes their investment back on a boat anyway?
