We had the added interest in that the life boat used in the movie was restored in my home town by a few of our local ships carpenters.

It that restored USCG lifeboat the one I saw at the Leland marina this summer?

I saw the movie yesterday. The story is compelling. Every scene depicting the engine room and the Pendleton's crew and experience is, unfortunately, pure Hollywood. There are plenty of T2 tanker engineers still out there that could have been consulted about what was/wasn't possible under the curcumstances.. including me.

Jim, I do not know if the restoration crew took a boat ride on the life boat when Disney returned the boat. More restoration is being done now along with undoing stuff that Disney did for the movie.

Chris, Hollywood makes up lots of stuff you are right. But in my limited experience all the broken ships go right to the bottom.

Sybert used the tanker’s engines to keep the tanker off the bar, but this only increased the vessel’s list and trim dangerously. When some of Sybert’s crew heard that a motor lifeboat from Chatham was on the way on their personal radios, efforts to maneuver the stern were stopped."

It amazes me there were crew to rescue.

Back in 1976 my brother-in-law and I got to dive on the stern section of the Pendleton near Chatham. Got one lobster.
