2004 Dauntless 160 Cooler Brand and Dimensions

Postby Bassin34711 » Mon Jun 01, 2020 6:54 pm

I just bought a 2004 160 Dauntless, and it is missing the cooler seat in front of the console.

What is the brand or type or model of the cooler?

What are the cooler dimensions?

The 2004 Boston Whaler brochure shows a 54 Quart cooler, usually IGLOO brand, as part of the Fishing Package and Comfort Package in the 160 Dauntless.

For the best quality, you might check out a YETI 45 cooler. The YETI 45 is very high priced and heavy.

The YETI 45 will be close in size to a Igloo 54 Quart, but you should double check your boat mounting system to see if the YETI 45 will fit.

Cushions are available from through Boston Whaler dealers, Anderson Mfg and Upholstery, or Specialty Marine.

Yeti cushions are available through a Yeti dealer or factory direct.

Does the 2004 DAUNTLESS 160 boat have the cooler chocks already installed on the cockpit deck ahead of the console?

If the chocks are already installed, you should get the OEM cooler so it fits the chocks.

If your boat never had the cooler seat option and there are no chocks installed, you can get any cooler you like, and fabricate your own chocks to fit the cooler. Perhaps the cooler manufacturer also sells chocks, or perhaps some generic cooler chocks will work with it, or perhaps you can buy the OEM cooler chocks from a Boston Whaler dealer.

In addition to the chocks there may also have been a hold-down mechanism. Often a bungie cord was used and pad-eyes installed on the chocks.

Check at WHALER.COM under OWNER RESOURCES to see if there is an assembly diagram that shows details of the cooler seat installation.

I have a 2004 Dauntless 160 and I got tired of replacing the broken standard igloo cooler. I looked at many new rotomolded coolers and the yeti tundra 45 was the closest to the igloo marine 54. It is about 1/2 inches wider than the igloo, so I had to widen the starboard material bracket slightly with a file. I changed out the standard Boston Whaler cushion to the Tundra using a snap kit.The Tundra is about an inch taller than the igloo which is good for passengers and is much stabler to ride on based on the weight. It for sure keeps the fish colder. I am extremely happy with the upgrade.
