I know that it is usually uncommon to write about boating and savings in the same sentence. I was at Costco in Connecticut and saw a display promoting a $115 membership in BoatUS with saltwater towing.

I already have the membership but was nearing renewal and picked it up since the regular cost is around $165.

You get a card at Costco . You activate a new membership online or extend an existing membership by a year. It was very easy to extend my membership, and I saved $50.

Disclaimer - I have no business or any relation to Costco or BoatUS outside of memberships in both and generally satisfied customer of each.

That is a great deal.

NEW TOPIC: When GEICO took over the BoatUS insurance division, I was able to shift the towing and trailer assist over as part of the boat policy. That saved me almost $100 on the towing and reduced my BoatUS membership cost to around $10. If I didn't need insurance to be at a marina I would definitely take the Costco deal.

Apparently boat insurance through BoatUS is becoming like the cost of a seat on a major airline: no two policies have the same cost.

The BoatUS discounted price in New Jersey was much lower.

It was $114.99 with a $25.00 discount for a total of $89.99

That's the least expensive price I've seen for as long as I can remember (I started part time with BoatUS in 1993).

What is not detailed in the Costco item is if it includes basic BoatUS membership which is required to get any towing coverage.

Nice for offshore and Great Lakes boaters.
