Identify 17-footer from HIN and Photos

Postby AlaskaB » Sun Aug 22, 2021 1:07 am

Picking up my first 17-footer, and I think it is a 1990 Montauk. I have been waiting for this day for a long time.

Looking over the 17-footer, it might be a repainted commercial hull. There are the little circles but they have been painted over. Possibly they will have the proper gelcoat dot and hull color.

HIN isn't leading me anywhere too conclusive. I may call Boston Whaler to get to a better identification of the hull.

The HIN is BWC M7659 D090

[I deleted my remarks and some back-and-forth comments about them in reply because the thread originator seemed to take offense to them calling them too "strong." --jimh]

The FAQ Answers to Question #2 (Where is the Hull Identification Number) has very good information on the use of dots to indicate heavier hull layup schedules, the location of the dots, and the color of the dots.
