We see nice old Boston Whaler boats that defy their age all the time. This NAUSET 16 is at my marina in Lawrence, New York. I can't believe the excellent condition of the wood. Everything looks to be original except that it has been re-powered with a ETEC 90-HP engine. This NAUSET is owned by a nice old gentleman who fishes. I always smile when I see this beauty. I think it is from 1968.

I don't believe a 1968 NAUSET 16 would have had an interior gel coat color in an off-white or tan. The change to Desert Tan interior color gel coat occurred c.1972. The usual interior color prior to then was blue. In the photo seen in Figure 1, the interior color seems quite distinct from the hull color.
Re the registration numbers: they'd get attention in Michigan from law enforcement. PLAIN BLOCK LETTERS are required for display of registration numbers.
The E-TEC 90-HP three-cylinder engine was extremely popular for re-powering older 16-footers. That engine and hull are a very good combination.

[The owner] claims the NAUSET is a 1968 model. Maybe [the cockpit] was painted--but I don't think so.
Yes, NY numbers.
I guess no one cares they are not block letters.
Classic cars and classic boats usually get a pass from the law around here.
