1968 NAUSET 16 Boat Cover

Postby Windsors » Sun Jan 16, 2022 9:46 am

Q1: [Implied question:] Where can a boat cover for a 1968 NAUSET 16 with bow and stern rails be purchased?

Neither Carver or Wm. J. Mills & Co had a boat cover for a 1968 NAUSET 16 they were certain would fit.

Q2: [To readers who have a c.1968 NAUSET 16 with bow and stern railings and a boat cover]: how does your cover fit?

Q3: [To readers who have a c.1968 NAUSET 16 with bow and stern railings and a boat cover]: how does your cover hold up ?

Q4: [Suggested additional question to readers who have a c.1968 NAUSET 16 with bow and stern railings and a boat cover]: who made the cover?

If you are limiting options to boat covers available off-the-shelf, I think you have already contacted the well-known vendors likely to have such a product. Some other off-the-shelf options are mentioned in an archived discussion on boat covers.

If you are located in an area with many recreational boats, there is probably at least one boat canvas artisan or one local boat canvas shop in your local area. I recommend you visit some large marinas in your area. Look at boats with well-made and well-designed canvas. Look for a label that identifies a local shop or local artisan that made that canvas. Contact the local shop or local artisan. Ask for an estimate on a made-to-fit custom boat cover using Glen Raven Mills SUNBRELLA fabric and appropriate support poles of stainless steel or aluminum.

Expect such custom canvas work to cost $1,000 or more. Well-designed and well-made boat canvas is expensive but worth its cost. Shops or individual artisans that produce top-grade boat canvas often have long backlogs of work, so expect to wait six months for delivery of a custom order. In some cases, faster work can be done if the boat is on a trailer and can be left with the canvas maker.
