Low Profile c.1977 OUTRAGE 19

Postby barm1 » Thu Mar 17, 2022 2:33 pm

Q1: would a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 be okay for running around the bays of the coast of Delaware?

Q2: would a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 be okay for crabbing?

Q3: would a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 be okay for pulling a tube?

Q4: what would be a proper asking price for a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 with an E-TEC 150-HP engine?

Q5: would a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 be the right boat for me?

Q6: is a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 really meant for what I want in a boat?

ASIDE: a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 is for sale near my location. I think the asking price is good. I will use the boat around Ocean City, Maryland, around Assateague Island, and on the bays inside the Delaware Coast.

I have heard that a c.1977 Low Profile OUTRAGE 19 is an OUTRAGE boat of that era with the top cap of the hull removed.

You can respond with any knowledge of these boats, even if your response does not pertain to my questions.

I think it would be great if you are in protected water. With low sides, very practical for tending pots.

They are a rare boat. They are worth saving and maintaining.

The Low-Profile OUTRAGE 19 was made by Boston Whaler as a work boat that had extremely low gunwale height. The factory literature said that among the "intended uses" were "skin diving, bone fishing, crabbing, and oil boom work."

The low-profile c.1970 OUTRAGE 19 boats seem have become most popular in very shallow brackish backwater bayous in the Texas and Louisiana area in marshy areas with tall grasses. There are even locally made knock-off hulls in production in Texas. The low-profile might be advantageous for boaters who wish to reduce their visibility to other boats or to particular species of fish sought by anglers.

As a general recreational boat, I can't see any special advantage for them. I would be particularly wary of getting a home-made low-profile, a boat that was hacked-up from a standard OUTRAGE.

You can see some old catalogue photographs from Boston Whaler in the CETACEA collection.

The value of any 45-year-old boat will be almost completely determined by its present condition, the completeness of all original equipment, the absence of horrible modifications, shoddy work, and signs of neglect. Further influences are the location, the time of the year, the popularity of the model, and suitability for use on intended waters.
