150 MONTAUK Model Year Variation

Postby avonnieda » Sun May 15, 2022 5:10 pm

Q1: what are the differences in the hull of a 150 MONTAUK pre and post the 2018 model year?

Q2: what are the differences in handling for a 150 MONTAUK pre and post the 2018 model year?

I may buy a 150 MONTAUK. Most used 150 MONTAUK boats for sale are pre-2018 model year.

To estimate the differences between the 150 MONTAUK pre and post 2018, look at the dimension of the hull and the boat weight.

To compare the handling, conduct a sea trail of both models, but you will need to do this with a very short interval between the sea trials, preferably conducting the sea trials almost simultaneously.

Thanks very much for the reply jimh, and clarifying my post. I'll see what I can do to try out both models.

Best regards,

Adam--I wish you the best in your search for a nice used 150 MONTAUK. A 15-footer is a nice boat in many ways:
  • fits in the garage
  • easy to trailer without needing a huge truck
  • lots of fun on the water
  • won't need too much $6-per-gallon marine fuel.

Note that most Boston Whaler dealers do NOT provide sea trials for prospective purchases. One must have a contract, and a sea trial, if done, occurs when the boat is delivered.

A good sales manager could possibly arrange a sea trial with a recently purchased boat. A new owner is sometimes inclined to "show off" his new boat.

Phil T - That's kind of what I was figuring. I'm in SWFL (Englewood / Lemon Bay) and there are no new Montauks physically available to even look at. It's a "place your order and wait" situation.

jimh - Those are exactly the reasons why I'm looking at a 150 Montauk :)

Jefecinco - Good point, worth looking into

Thanks!

ADAM--Brunswick has a big operation under the banner of a "Boat Club" where they have different types of boats available for their members to use. You might check if there is a Brunswick Boat Club operation in your area, and if you could get a limited trial membership just for the purpose of testing a 150 MONTAUK--assuming they have one in their fleet.

If you dig up the data on weight and dimension differences, append it to this thread.

Yep, we've actually done a good deal of looking around at those types of places and boat rentals in general, so far we have not had any luck there. And being that my question needs two Montauks to answer, it's kind of a difficult one to begin with, I was just hoping there was someone on here that would have some recent experience with both hulls. We're getting one regardless, and I'll probably go with < 2018.

Thanks, you guys are admirable!

When I mentioned "sea trial" in an earlier comment, the sea trial would be provided by a seller of a used boat, not a Boston Whaler dealer.

In the current low supply, high demand market, I found it interesting that a travel trailer - camper company has a "Discovery Program".
They say, in part, 'We believe that you shouldn’t have to come to our showroom to see all of the great benefits in owning our product. That’s why we have created the Discovery Program. The Discovery Program has customers all over the United States who are willing showcase their trailer to people in their area'.
What a great idea!

When Brunswick aquired Freedom Boat Club, they did not change its name.

From reviewing their website, it does not inexpensive.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful responses, really appreciated! We just put a deposit down on a 2022 150 Montauk, will arrive in September.

So I guess I'll find out out she handles! :)

Cheers,
