MONTAUK 17 Trolling Lines, Outriggers

Postby Flynn » Fri May 27, 2022 9:01 am

Q1: How can the number of lines deployed for trolling when offshore from a MONTAUK 17 be increased?

Q2: how can outriggers be made for a MONTAUK 17?

DIck Fisher was an avid angler. See his installation of outriggers mounted forward of the center console on an early model OUTRAGE 21 at

https://continuouswave.com/whaler/refer ... ABoat.html

A similar design could be adapted to mounting outriggers forward of the console on a MONTAUK 17. The console of the MONTAUK 17 and the old OUTRAGE 21 are similar in size.

Long tapered-diameter poles made now can be constructed from carbon fiber and be very lightweight yet strong. Be prepared to pay handsomely for tapered carbon fiber poles.

For suggestions on general methods to increase the number of trolling lines deployed, visit a website that focuses on angling and specifically on offshore trolling in small boats. For example, search for "trolling with planer boards". You should find much more information on sites that focus on angling by trolling than you will on CONTINUOUSWAVE.COM

ALSO: recreational fishing by trolling is often regulated by local state regulations. In some waters trolling is not permitted. Often the number of lines to be deployed is limited by the number of licensed anglers aboard. This raises another question:

How many lines do you plan to deploy when trolling offshore in the MONTAUK 17?
