2001 220 DAUNTLESS Hatch Lid Rubber Latch Mechanism

Postby padrefigure » Mon Jul 25, 2022 3:33 pm

Seen below in Figure 1 are two components from a 2001 220 Dauntless that are used to hold the hatch lids in a closed position at the forward fish box hatch and anchor locker hatch.

Q1: what are these rubber components called?

Q2: where can replacement parts be purchased?

The hatch lid latch works as follows:
  • the left piece or "plunger" is made of hard rubber and is mounted to the underside with a machine screw, with the screw threading into a lock nut in the plunger
  • the right piece is a cup made of soft rubber that mounts to the hull using a sheet metal screw and large fender washer.
  • when the hatch lid is closed, the left plunger enters the right cup and is retained by a ring that grips the groove around the plunger
The soft rubber portion of the cup has deteriorated, and I need to replace it.

I have not been successful searching online for information about these two components of the hatch lid latch mechanism.

All of the parts diagrams and parts lists for your boat can be found on the Boston Whaler website:

You may need parts 9, 10, and 11 in this diagram:

Boston Whaler parts are sold through their authorized dealers. A good dealer to work with for parts is Twin Cities Marine. Contact them by telephone and ask for Sue in the parts department.

Based on the excellent information provided above the rubber component is listed as Boston Whaler part number 1142348 and is called a Door Stop Holder, Rubber, Blue.

Again, all of this information comes from the resources at the WHALER.COM factory website.

I finally found out what the part is called--"Door Stop" and was able to source from my local dealer. I pulled all of the diagrams but did not find the one that shows the part specfically. It's all in the details--I should have replacements in a week or so. Incidentally, this is sold as an assembly with all three parts included. Part number is "1142348 Door Stop". I will let you know when I ultimately succeed in fixing this problem on the boat.
