Q1: What is a semi-custom cover that fits a 1965 16-foot hull with a aftermarket center console and aftermarket bench seat for under $800 that will cover the entire boat and railings and have a cut out for the outboard engine?
Q2: would a cover designed for a newer MONTAUK 17 work?
I cannot afford $2,000 on a custom cover.
Give me suggestions for a ready-made cover based on your personal experience.
I have tried a cover from NATIONAL COVERS, but the cover was too wide.

I would look at the Carver and Westland covers.
Select the Montauk 17 with side rails but NOT the bow rail.

Re: Custom 16-footer Ready-made Boat Cover
Thanks Phil,
According to Carver, the custom cover they offer for the Montauk 17 is only for boats with a bow rail. The other cover they make supposedly doesnt accommodate the stern rails.
I have a line out with Westland to see if they offer something for my boat, but it is unclear on their website what they mean by 15-inch rails.

I confirmed that Westland does not offer a cover option for a Montauk 17 with side rails but no bow rail.
Any other recommendations would be great.

Re: Custom 16-footer Ready-made Boat Cover
When we purchased a 190 Montauk with side rails but without a bow rail we were unable to find a stock cover anywhere.
I called Carver Covers to discuss our needs. The customer service representative advised that a cover made for a 190 with a bow rail may fit to our satisfaction and if after trying one Carver would refund our purchase price if we returned the cover.
After trying the cover we were satisfied and kept it for several years. The fit was not perfect because the material at the bow came down lower by several inches however the function was perfect.

The Carver cover for the pre-2002 17's without bow rail should accommodate the stern side rails. Stern navigation light out of the socket as well.
The drop down option when ordering looks like this one:
BOSTON WHALER 17 MONTAUK O/B W/O BOW RAIL (THRU-02)
That is what I bought and installed on my 1972 Cohasset II and also got two snap in tent poles. It worked very well for my application but granted it was not as taught as a rub-rail clip mooring cover. I put spliced pool noodles on the top rail of the console.
A pic of the cover, installed and several years old, is in the https://continuouswave.com/forum/viewto ... f=5&t=6502
There is an online dealer, Bald Mike's, that has discount pricing on the Carver covers and they are shipped straight from Carver. https://baldmikes.com/

Thank you both for the replies. I will try the CARVER cover and see how it goes.
