Determining Water Content in Unibond Hull

Postby Michele » Fri Dec 30, 2022 6:15 pm

I may buy a 1985 Super Sport. I want to make sure it's not waterlogged.

Q1: Other than weighing this boat is there any other way to measure how dry or wet the core may be?

[To determine if the hull may have acquired water in the interior of the Unibond hull,] look for:
  • screw holes
  • rust stains from transom eyes
  • weeping from drain tubes and engine bolts.

Regardless of the bottom paint, can you tell where the grime line is on the transom and the aft quarters.

This is a highly sought after model. As long as the engine is not a brick, the pricing is reasonable.

Your question is one of the most frequently asked questions. An answer has already been prepared. See the FAQ at Q3: Is there water in a Unibond hull?
