Q1: on a 130 SUPER SPORT current model, how many cylinders is the Mercury 40-HP engine?

Q2: on a 130 SUPER SPORT current model, is the number of cylinder on the Mercury 40-HP engine the same number of cylinders as the 40-HP engine used on models prior to 2019?

Q3: on a 130 SUPER SPORT current model, what is the weight of the Mercury 40-HP engine?

ASIDE: I asked these questions to the folks at Boston Whaler customer support, and they told me they did not have this information.

You can probably get more information about a current model Mercury engine from the Mercury Marine website than you can from Boston Whaler customer service.

Thanks, Jim. I'm sure you are right, but first I need to know what kind of engine is on the boat (3 cylinder or 4 cylinder). The fact that Boston Whaler customer support doesn't know what kind of engines are on their boats is a bit mind boggling (and pretty disturbing).

Are you saying, that in their present line of outboard engines, Mercury Marine makes two different 40-HP engines, one with three cylinders and another with four cylinders?

The serial number, model number, and year of manufacture are in plain sight on the engine. If you have the engine owner's manual it will contain the information you seek. Or, if you don't have access to the engine or don't own it, you may be able work out which engine it is by some detecting by perhaps using the model year of the 130 Super Sport. "Current model" may not tell us what 40 HP engine came with the boat.

I appreciate you trying to help. To answer jimh's question, yes, Mercury currently makes a 3 cylinder and a 4 cylinder 40HP four stroke. One weighs 204 lbs and the other weighs 260 lbs, so it's a pretty meaningful difference on a small boat. I don't own the boat (I'm thinking of buying one), so I don't have the serial number or owner's manual for the engine. I've reached out to a local Whaler dealer so we will see if he can help me. I have another question about this model, but I will start a separate thread for that.
