It sold for the asking price via Facebook Marketplace within four hours of posting, and I had at least one other buyer lined up.
The motor stand went for an extra $50.
It seems there are quite a few people with older 17-foot boats looking for lightweight replacement outboards.

This engine came with a Boston Whaler Montauk 17 that I purchased new in November of 1990. It has served me well, and I have enjoyed maintaining it almost as much as using it. It gets the boat on plane in under five seconds, hitting a top speed of 40-MPH, and pulling-up a slalom skier with no problem. If I used this boat primarily to pull kids around a lake on a water toy, I would keep it forever, but my use for this boat has evolved into intense 5-day fishing trips ranging over an isolated 1,000-square-mile coastal estuary with fishing partners who take a dim view of time lost to replace a relay or adjust a shift cable. Thus, despite this outboard engine working flawlessly at present, I think it’s time to re-power.
It's a two-stroke-power-cycle engine, 20-inch shaft. The automatic oil [mixing] system and trim/tilt are functional. The hydraulic jack plate is NOT included.
Besides the periodic replacement of lower unit oil and other lubricants, impeller and spark plugs, this engine has had the following repairs or replacements:
- lower unit replaced with a new OEM Mercury lower unit;
- power head rebuilt with new piston rings and gaskets; cylinders relined. (Cylinder compression currently 120/120/112 psi, within Mercury specs);
- replacement of voltage regulator/rectifier, distribution box, ignition switch, neutral safety switch, starter relay, and trim/tilt relays;
- under-cowl oil reservoir and supply lines replaced;
- fuel pump rebuilt.
The engine comes with the following accessories:
- an excellent OEM Mercury service manual;
- two Mercury Quicksilver stainless steel three-blade propellers, 13” diameter, 19” pitch. WOT engine speed is 5,400 rpm with these propellers;
- one combination lifting eye/magneto puller;
- throttle control, throttle and shift cables, intact wire harness;
- one propeller hub lock;
- one extra impeller (OEM, new), plus one used impeller and water pump cover in good condition;
- one voltage regulator/rectifier (aftermarket, new);
- one prop wrench;
- one drive shaft and shift shaft (used, good condition);
- one propeller shaft (used, fair condition, with splines slightly twisted);
- lower unit gear set (used, good condition);
- one clutch repair kit (OEM, new old stock)
