Postby AD3804 » Thu Aug 25, 2022 10:23 am

Please give an apparaisal of the 1970 SAKONNET, E-TEC engine, and trailer as a package, as shown below. The boat is in mostly original configuration with original rails, rub railing, fishing pole rack, RPS, console and bow casting platform.

-- Hull professionally checked in 2018 and no soft spots found. Repairs done at that time detailed below.
-- All woodwork was redone in 2020 (refinished with spar varnish, so it will need to be redone soon). Windscreen restored and remounted stud bolts so it's easy to separate when you want to refinish the console.
-- Helm replaced in 2019.
-- Minor delamination in transom professionally repaired in 2019.
-- All through hulls professionally replaced in 2019.
-- Loose railing stanchion bases reset in fiberglass this year.
-- Re-engined in October 2019 with the Evinrude E-TEC 90 HP
-- Bimini replaced in 2020.
-- Fish finder/depth finder/gps plotter new in 2020
-- Original Mills mooring cover (professionally repaired in 2019).
-- Older Cox trailer (keel and bunk rollers replaced in 2018). Serviceable ... but will probably need to be replaced within a year or two.
-- Older anti-fouling paint on bottom. Gel coat shows a fair amount of crazing/cracking. I have tried to restore the finish with a lot of mechanical polishing, hand rubbing. Hull shines nicely and reflects well. But the gelcoat is still ... old.
-- Boat sits on a lift, not in the water since 2018. Stored inside during the winter. Prior to that, I don't know.
-- 1 - 12 gallon tank, 3 6-gallon tanks.
-- Anchor and rode.
-- nav lights work

I would say $13,000 to $15,000. The final price will depend on the buyer. A buyer would be someone who will appreciate the original elements and the quality condition or someone just looking for a center console boat.

Thanks Phil -- Appreciate the feedback. If I sell, I'm hoping to at least break even, which would be slightly north of $15,000. The E-TEC engine was expensive.

The E-TEC adds considerable value. It is very difficult to receive the full value of the cost of a new engine put on a 52-year-old boat when you sell the boat and engine as a package.

Several years ago a very nice OUTRAGE 18 (the GAMBLER) was offered for sale, including many additions such as full canvas and a radar arch. It had twin E-TEC 90-HP engines. There were no buyers at the asking price, and eventually the seller broke up the package. The engines were sold separately, and the boat was eventually sold in parts and pieces. In this way the seller was better able to recover his costs. I was saddened to such a very cool boat be broken apart, but it became clear that was the best approach for the owner to recover his significant investment in the boat.
