Appraisal: 2006 Montauk 170

Postby bikerGus » Thu Oct 20, 2022 1:16 pm

Is $44,000 a reasonable price for 2006 Montauk 170 in Houston, Texas? The boat has the fishing package option and all of the following installed by a dealer:

  • 2023 Tohatsu 90 under five-year warranty
  • Tohatsu digital controls
  • four-bladed steel propeller
  • hydraulic steering
  • two ProPowerPoles
  • Lowrance HDS 7
Also a new boat cover, a 2022 McClain aluminum single-axle trailer with spare tire and under warranty, a jack plate, a Bimini top, a VHF Marine Band radio, new fuel tanks, and an anchor. In addition there is also required USCG safety gear, fenders, and rod holders.

The 2006 170 MONTAUK boat has always been stored inside.

That is vey high, unless you find a buyer who wants that exact setup.

It is not always about what is costs to install but what it is worth to the buyer.

Engine and controls is 13K
Steering is 2k
Trailer is 3k
GPS is 2k
Jackplate and bimini and cover 4k
Hull and other items is 10K

$35,000 is more realistic.

Your call.

Thanks for the reply, Phil. Your parts pricing is right on, except I added in dealer labor charges. Pofessional dealer installation and setup is not cheap but worth having done correctly.

A Lowrance HDS 7 has been obsolete for about ten years. I don’t think the MSRP was over $1,000.

The best gauge of appropriate price will be how fast this boat sells. I would expect a 17-year-old 170 MONTAUK in really nice shape should be in high demand, but price is always the biggest influence for buyers. At an attractive price it should sell in a day or two.
